What's in a name?

My 12 year old son says I have scarred him for life by naming him Harrison. Because it means 'son of Harry' and his father is called Mark. He says his whole life is based around irrationality!?! Hmm

My ds is Jude although he's never said anything himself before he was born people told us it was a girls name ie Judy. I still love his name as it's so unusual. He gets Hey Jude sang to him a lot

Grin That is fantastic, Soggy.

Tell him that you're preparing him well for his future, since very little in this world is based on rationality.

Then start calling him Markson. In front of his friends.

Soggy1979 · 13/09/2015 19:34

I think Jude is a cool name Star

Soggy he may be scarred for life but at least you raised him with a good sense of humour Wink

Ha Strawberrybubblegum, he doesn't agree with you at all! He is trying his best to live a 'rational' life. e.g. where he eats his lunch, correcting people, rational choices. His name just does fit in with this ethos. He thinks a lot about things and has an answer for everything! I fear his brain may explode one day.

I can only commend him for a brave approach! He sounds fab Grin

Does he know that Richard Feynman decided one day that he would always choose the same desert from that day forward? He LOVED desert, and decided that having to decide between them was worrying him and making him unhappy, and it would be better to decide once and never have to think about it again. I'm not sure whether that was before or after he did the work that won him his Nobel prize Grin

If your son hasn't read any of Feynman's autobiography books, I'd really recommend them. He was an incredible man, and a wonderful writer.

Not in the same league, but I'd also recommend Do you think what you think you think which is a fun book of quizzes to uncover any flaws in your logical thinking. I found it really fun (I'm very logical - a maths and IT geek) and it sounds like your son would too.

Let him change his name for one of his choice. And check him for Aspie-ness.

Soggy1979 · 13/09/2015 21:42

I think he's better off than girls called Maddison. Why would you give a girl a name ending in 'son'?

Soggy1979 · 13/09/2015 22:05

maybe all new baby name books should come with a warning under the name 'Harrison'? Hmm

Same dessert, boring. He would do a timetable. Autobiographies, boring! But he does like the sound of 'Do you think what you think you think'. So I shall look that one up.
He hasn't thought of a name yet.
