Nappy rash creams

How long do you give the nappy cream to work?

Newborn had it as he poos constantly! I've been airing his bum, changing as soon as I can, using water and cotton wool etc.

So far we've tried Metanium (made it worse), sudacrem and now Bepanthen. I've tried each one for about 4 days each but it's not shifting.

How long does it usually take a cream to take effect?

I can't remember what it is called but the bed nappy cream I have found is a zinc one that can be bought quite cheaply from wilkinsons. When you give him a bath in the evening do not use soaps, make sure he is thoroughly dried and leave his nappy off as much as possible (obviously with boys this is easier said than done)

Xx

For bare bum time put a bib round his hips (think loin cloth) and lie him on a thick towel - the bib stops wee-fountains!

What Louise said. Bad nappy rash in newborns is often due to thrush, so ask HV or GP for some Canesten. Or get some from pharmacy.

Thank you for the advice. It was health visitor that prescribed metanium and then when it got worse the GP said go back to sudacrem then said if that
Doesn't work use the Bepanthen. I'll contact the GP again on Monday if it's no better.

He screams during nappy free time but I'll stick with it.

DS often had about 6-8 dirty nappies a day until we started weaning at 5.5 months.

We found that using WaterWipes and applying a thin layer of the Waitrose Bottom Butter (essentially solidified olive oil) completely prevented nappy rash.
