I'n keen to take DS swimming from an early age. My local pool do swimming sessions from 6months. I assume I can just take him.into the baby pool myself before then?

If i do, do i just bob him about for a bit?

Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

Yep, you usually can. Give them a call if you're not sure. DS went at 8 weeks for about 20 mins. Then at 4 months suddenly 'got it' and started splashing. It's exhausting for them so expect crying after and a blumming long sleep. Grin

I started swimming lessons with my DD at 6wks old. It's such a lovely thing to do - was by far my favourite baby activity. There are companies such as 'water babies' who run lessons from newborn upwards & run structured programmes. Enjoy.

To add to what has already been said if you can get a full suit (like a sunsuit) that covers more and/or a float suit it would be better as they will get cold even if the water is warm.
Also see if you can take a towel to the pool side so you can wrap baby as soon as you get out.

Tiny babies get cold quickly in the pool Get a neoprene baby wrap which keeps their torso toasty warm. Your DS will be STARVING afterwards and very tired so a long feed and a long sleep will follow. Of course this gives you the perfect opportunity to sit in the local coffee shop and relax for a while.

I took mine from 5 weeks. Shes nearly 11 months now and we still go once a week. She'll jump in off the side now, and can pull herself out too. Not quite there on the bit in between yet (ie can't swim up properly to the surface), but I can't see it being long. I see it as a safety skill, but obviously they love being in the water. Learner pools are better because they're warmer. You want 30 degrees really - a wetsuit will add 2 degrees for them.

When you take s young baby do you need to get floats, rubber ring etc or can you just carry them in the water? Thinking of taking ds (9 weeks) sometime soon

The float seats aren't for under 12 weeks. They need to have a reasonable degree of head control first. Just swishing them around in the water is enough to start with.
