Regression following new baby - have you been here too?

DS (3) had been pretty much clean and dry during the day for 2 months when DD arrived 4 weeks ago. His only hang up was not wanting to use the toilet. Since DD arrived things have been mixed - more accidents at nursery (he has just moved to a new room) and several accidents a day at home. Accidents at home often coincide with me doing something with the baby. On the positive side he has taken himself off to the toilet to wee standing up and has managed to 'hold himself in' on car journeys until we have found somewhere to stop. He has also asked to use toilet when we have been out and about. I therefore think that the accidents are very much to do with getting attention. I don't blame him for this, and have been trying to keep things as low key as possible when he does have an accident and have gone back to a sticker chart for when he uses toilet.

What I would like is some reassurance from people who have been through this kind of thing. Logically I know he will grow out of it, but it is getting quite frustrating. If you had this kind of regression, how long did it take to get back on track?????

Dd was fine during the day (was 2y9mo) but started wetting the bed at night (she'd been dry at night for about 6 months). So it wasn't attention (was in her sleep) but def related to ds arriving. Took a couple of months to get back to normal. And I didn't 'do' anything about it - just changed the sheets in very matter-of-fact way (semi-comatose way, actually).

Might be worth getting your ds to "help" when you change the baby's nappy - with lots of talk about how the poor little baby has to use a yucky nappy cos she's too small, and not big and clever yet ...
