Breastfeeding help!

Lately my DS's nappies have been really green - I've been told this is because my baby is getting too much of the low calorie sugary milk from the beginning of a feed rather than the high calorie milk from the end of a feed.

Many websites say when he is finished feeding the next feed he has start him on a new 'unused' breast to rectify the problem where as other websites say to start on the last used breast.

I'm confused and want to rectify this ASAP.

Advice please :)

My DS had lurid green poos for a while (ebf), he must have been about 6weeks as I remember speaking to the go about it at his 6 week check. He said the range of normal for ebf poo was huge and if he was gaining weight then not to worry (he was). I asked various HVs too and they all said the same thing. I was a hot summer so I was producing more watery milk which is what he needed, but it did make his poo green.

I would double check with a HV but no one seemed concerned when we went through this.

I wouldn't worry about the colour, as pp said a wide range is normal. I am currently bf dc3, and have always just alternated from one feed to the next, unless baby was distracted or not hungry and only had a very small bit from one side I would go back to that side next time. All of mine have been a good size.

From my experience and anecdotally from my friends I would say don't get too hung up on the fore milk hind milk thing - babies and boobs tune into each other and provide /get what's needed.
How old is your dc?

He is 8 weeks this coming Friday, he has consistently gained weight since birth, MW and HV have always been impressed with weight gain but it's been last 3-4 days the very green nappies have occurred? I did tell HV and she didn't seem concerned. Am I worrying too much?

Dd used to get green poos a lot when she was younger. She is still breastfed but it never happens now. She's 1 though and I think they probably stopped when she started eating solids.

I think the green poos often seem to tie in with when she was teething.

I wouldn't be worried after a few days but it's worth reading this in case it should continue Smile

I was told.green means they are fighting off a little bug or virus. ..but not to worry if they seem ok otherwise

I posted the same post. DS is 7wks on Friday and had a few days of green poo. I was sure i had read it was bad.

The responses i had on here were that its nothing to worry about, and his poos went back to normal after about 5 days.
