Letting them sleep when sick

How much is too much? DS (7.5) came down with a nasty sickness bug in the night, he vomitted at least once every hour from 1am. He is still asleep in bed, the being sick stopped at about 6am. He was given sips of water after every episode but really didn't want anything, he's obviously extremely tired and feels awful.

Part of me feels inclined to just let him sleep as long as he likes but another part is quite worried about potential dehydration. We have dioralyte in the house that I can give him when he wakes but it's vile so he may not drink it. When I spoke to him at 7am he didn't want to eat anything at all, understandably. I've not dealt with a bug this bad before in one of them, I'm feeling a bit out of my depth. What do I do next?

Leave water near him and encourage to drink regularly, though not gulping it down. I'd let sleep as much as wanted perhaps on the sofa in front of a film later with the duvet.

How is he now NotSo?

He's better in himself but very tired, he took himself to bed at 6.30pm! Not eaten much either, it's really wiped him out, poor love. I'm in a real quandary about school tomorrow but it's only his second week in a new one and I'm not sure if it might do more harm than good, confidence wise, to keep him home.

Wait minimum 48 hours after last sick bug symptom before you send him back, nobody else wants what he's got. And wait longer if he still seems wiped out.

Cycle-type water bottle next to bed, maybe, if he'll reach for it.

He'll be at 48 hours around 5/6am I think. He's drinking ok, just not eating much. Hopefully a good sleep will have helped him perk up by morning.

good idea to mix a tiny amount of salt and sugar into every glass of water as the electrolytes will be out of balance from the vomiting. Sleep is healing .
