i was just hoping for some reassurance really. my ds is 6months and a week and still cant roll over! he wont sit up either! he likes to stand and quite happily stands, supporting his own weight for a few secs.
can anyone suggest any ways to encourage this? he spends quite a bit of his time on his play mat but it doesnt seem to help..

Hi there

No worries on this one. My first dd sat around til she was a year, then crwaled at 13months, walked at 15 - really well.

My second dd is 8 months and has never been interested in rolling over (bit dull maybe!?!) but loves standing up and seems very interested in the concept of walking.

If you have one nearby, try and get your son down to one of those soft-play zones for babies/toddlers because for those who love to stand, it's heaven and they can hang onto things and topple over with out accident. He's obv more interested in the big people stuff!!!

My sis's ds is (8 months) exactly same age as my second dd and he rolled over early and has learnt to crawl, and is interested in standing. BUT the drawback is, because he can mover around but is so little, he cannot be left alone for more than a few seconds because he zooms into danger. My sis is KNACKERED. Because my DD moved later, she was a tiny bit more aware of danger and so it was quite a bit easier. There ARE advantages!

Oh yes there are definitely advantages of having a baby who's not mobile yet. It's much easier. Because my daughter was 22 months before she started walking she was already old enough to understand what I was saying to her, like "hold my hand" and "don't go over there". Whereas a 12 month old who's mobile just zooms all over everywhere and really keeps you on your toes.

thanks everyone for your input. My mind is more at rest now.
He did manage to sit up for a while on his own this morning
then fell flat on his face with his bum in the air lol!!
He did have great delight in proving to my mum that he could stand at the sofa without me supporting him, i guess hes got his own way of doing things.
Theres a soft play place closeish to me...will have to investigate... thanks for the idea two..
