What do your children do after school?

My DD1 has just turned 4 and started school today. She's only doing half days at the moment but will start full time in a week. I'm expecting her to be quite tired at first and it got me thinking what do other children do after school? Do they have activities or tend to rest at home? We'll probably keep it low key for a while but I'm wary about letting her watch hours of TV each night!

Even without activities, the time just flies. DS has just started year 1, and will do swimming very soon, our non-activitied life from Reception year looked like this:
3.30 collect
3.40 arrive home and chat
3.50 about 40 mins telly
4.30 play for about 90 mins, including read to me/DH
6.00 dinner, then usual evening routine

I usually make mine a snack and let them watch TV. We have tea then do any reading or homework then start bath and bedtime. On the nights they have swimming or football after school I find them evenings quite stressful and rushed

Depends on the child. We had loads of warnings from friends that DS would be tired after school in reception, but he was absolutely fine.

We went to the park near school, along with lots of other kids from his school, when the weather allowed. It was a great way to get to know other families at the school.

In term 2 we signed him up for a couple of after school clubs he wanted to do.

Brilliant thank you.

I know we'll have reading to do and she has a swimming lesson once a week so I'll see how tired she is. I also have a 4 month old so tea time can be quite stressful at the best of times trying to feed everyone!
