School- Is 2.5 miles too far?

I have two ds'sone age 9 and one who turned 5 yesterday. Anyhow originally ds1 attended a community primary literally two minutes down the road from our house. It turned out not to be the best school for him and after him being bullied thrpughout most of year two and three we decided to move him and he started year 4 at a lovely little catholic school Last Septemeber.

The school is 2.5 miles away so I now have to drive there an back and my friends and family think I'm crazy for doing this. Our youngest ds has also got a place and will start next Monday and our eldest started year 5 today. I have no regrets really about moving ds1 as it's an amazing school with amazing teachers but despite having made friends as we don't live local and therefore our eldest doesn't really socialise outside of school with any of his school friends and to be honest some of the mums are a bit snooty with me and don't seem to want to arrange meet ups, they've obviously knows each other for years so I feel like the odd one out.

So I guess I'm a little worried that we live too far away and that ds2 may miss out on forming some strong friendships as all his friends will be local.

All the local schools closer to home are all in special measures and have bad reputations so I made the best choice I could really for ds and I'm sure of it but I've some niggling doubts now. Altnough I've friends in the city who have to travel up to ten miles each way for school and their children have made plenty of friends and don't feel left out so is 2.5 really that far do you think or am I worrying about nothing?

Well I hope not because ds is starting tomorrow at the school I work at which is 18 miles away!!!! It's a private school with a nursery onsite and he'll be doing one year in nursery and then starting in reception next September.

I am sure that your ds will be fine, it sounds like you've made a very sensible decision Smile

Does the big one cycle so he could go and meet friends nearby at the weekend when he wants too?
I don't think its too far at all mines at nursery 1.5miles away and we normally walk it.

I moved mine from the local village school to one 10 miles away. My DC have plenty friends in town. We still do playdates etc. and all of the DC sporting activities are in the town with their friends, so not an issue at all.

A lot of driving for me is the only issue. But that is a price I will happily pay for my DC to get a decent education.
