I know adult DMs can be uncomfortable until worn it, is it the same for toddlers?
I'm thinking about getting 20 month old DD some and wondered if anyone has any experience with DMs for this age group?

I am wincingon behalf of your DD.

Have had DMs in the past for myself- and they destroyed my feet until they became comfortable.

i don't think I would want to inflict that on tender young toddler feet ):

Unless, of course, they are made of a different, softer leather.

Are the soles right for a toddler? Do you have a link OP? The soles need to have enough "give" to support a child's walking naturally. Are they fashion shoes/occasion shoes or everyday? There are proper children's shoe companies that do boots for toddlers.

DD1 has practically lived in DMs since she could walk and has never complained. In fact she requests them quite often. She's on her fourth pair. The ones under s certain size are much softer and normal boot like.

I've never ever been able to wear dm's. they just hurt my feet and ankles too much. I'd never ever buy them for a toddler

mewkins · 31/08/2015 20:19

Almost bought 5yo dd some DM school shoes today but she is between sizes. They were fab and she said very comfy. They had little shoes in there that were nice and soft and sturdy.

Fairylea · 31/08/2015 20:20

If my current problems with mine are anything to go by.... ouch ! I've had to wear double socks and plasters for the last 6 weeks whenever I wear them. Personally I'd go for some clarks or start rite properly fitted ones for little ones.

GetTheFudgeOutOfRodge · 31/08/2015 22:04

This is what I was thinking. I know some adults find them painful although I've never had any any issues and that adult ones aren't exactly flexible, but I compared them to DD's current Clarks shoes and the flex and movement seemed exactly the same.
The store assistant did tell me toddler boots are built differently, specifically for toddlers and not just a scaled down version of adults.
But of course that could be a load of lies to get me to buy!

It's good to hear that those whose DC have had them have found them comfortable.
I'm also quite reassures to know others would think about them being painful as DH, DM and my friends think I'm being PFB about it! BlushGrin

Would love to hear more if anyone else's DC has had them and how they found them.

It's sort of like jeans. Jeans for adults are generally stiff but jeans for toddlers are made of soft cotton like material. Pretty different and catered to their needs.

DD1 doesn't wear ANYTHING she's not happy with and would definitely make a fuss if she was uncomfortable. Grin

My ds1 had a pair, red with blue spots, they were fab. And as others said the kids ones are softer and no issues with having to wear them in.

We were given a pair years ago. Both Dds loved them and lived in them. We were often asked where we got them.

They were by all accounts really comfy. and lasted well enough to go through two kids constant wear.

GetTheFudgeOutOfRodge · 02/09/2015 13:19

I'm sold. DMs for her when she needs the next size up!

Now to ask a really stupid question.
We get her feet measured every 6 weeks unless we're advised to do it more regularly as she is close to going up, but not there yet.
So my question is, do kids go up through every single shoe size, including half sizes? Blush

I always assumed there was some overlap in sizes so you could go from a 4 to a 5 and a half for example rather than going from a 4, to 4 and a half, to a 5 etc.

I feel stupid even having to ask but I have zero experience with children's feet up to this point! Confused

But the kids ones are made for kids and not just the adult ones in miniature.

Re sizing yes I think we only went up whole sizes. Most shops will fit the shoes with room to grow and I am sure we didn't go back every 6 weeks to re measure. Just whenever they looked tight or left a mark on dd's feet or she didn't want to put them on.

Fairylea · 03/09/2015 06:22

Why can't they make the adult ones as soft as the kids ones then?! My feet absolutely hate me at the moment!

mewkins · 03/09/2015 15:05

Hmmm maybe they want adult ones to last longer as our feet don't tend to grow! Have you tried the vaseline trick?

GetTheFudgeOutOfRodge · 06/09/2015 13:35

As mewkins said, I expect adult DMs are built for durability and longevity which results in them being much tougher.
There was a thread not long ago where lots of people posted tips on how to help with uncomfortable DMs, did you see it Fairylea?
