Is this outfit the one you've tried? We had the magician story-teller for one hour, combined with an hour of jungle climbing frame, at Seymour Leisure in W2 & total was just on £200. It was a huge success (despite Seymour's rather spartan facilities).

Don't know how much it costs but have been mulling it over for birthdays for ds1 & 2 next year as birthdays are very close together.

Blooming heck! We do this for birthday parties with a drama teacher every year, always a huge success, and it costs £65 for two hours, including party games. Unfortunately we're in Edinburgh, but you could virtually fly her down on Easyjet for less than that! I do recommend that sort of party if you can find something cheaper.

We had a clown called Fizzie Lizzie five years ago for my dd's birthday party, and she was brilliant, and tough too, which is important if you're inviiting lots of five-yo boys. 020 7723 3877.

Otherwise try here for NW London ideas.

Since that first extravaganza I've gained confidence and tended towards DIY parties, which are actually fine as long as you know what to expect. We've hired the local 2o'clock club, which has a big garden, and you get all the little cars and bikes and stuff. We've started the children off with a craft activity (eg. making masks or party hats), followed by running around, followed by tea, followed by more running around, followed by party bags and home. Much much cheaper than the whole entertainer thing, and no more stressful, in the end.

I've just had (Friday afternoon) my dd party for her 7th and the entertainer was fantastic. He's called Malcolm the Magician and although he is based in Bognor Regis, he didn't charge us for travel. He was 165 for two hours and make sure all the parents are there, as there is lots of 'over their heads' types of jokes, which kept us going.... proper magic too, with a rabbit and glasses of water upside down over their heads.... The screaming reached fever pitch. He does an hours show and then an hours disco, games etc. He's in his thirties, has three kids and just has a way with kids. Number is 01243 868084.

I have hired Walligog

He is old (I'd guess a fair bit older than his photo - what a suprise!), he was 30- 40 mins late, although he then went on to do a good party for us (2-3 yrs ago). I've seen him since & was very unimpressed - his child management leaves a lot to be desired (and left some children in tears )

Would not recommend!
