Baby Bjorn carrier

Hi, I'd like to buy a baby bjorn carrier for my 6 week old baby. As there are a few to choose from, which one would you recommend? I need one that is easy to use and is good for carrying a heavy, long baby.

Thanks, Sarah

You will probably get loads of replies telling you not to get a BB as they are BAD! Some of them, the original ones, are narrow based to the child's legs dangle from the hip.

This is said to be bad for the hips.

However, the New one has a wide base and keeps the legs in the 'M' position, i think its the 'We' model?

I have this and have found it easy to use on my own. I tried a few others, including the ego and manduca, and couldn't put either on alone.

The BB is very easy to put on and off.

I also have a stretchy wrap which i am getting to grips with after a few goes.

Might be worth looking up your local sling meet/library so you can try a few.

Hi Sarah do you mean a Baby Bjorn specifically or just some kind of sling? Like camper I'd steer clear of them because they aren't the comfiest for you or your baby.

Can you see if there's a 'sling meet' near you? You'll be able to try lots of different slings / carriers. I used a wrap sling (Moby) and loved it, but the choice is enormous.

Get an Ergo. We had a BB and it was rubbish. Baby should be "close enough to kiss" and they just aren't in a BB and similar. They are really bad for babies hips and groins too.

Two of my friends have baby bjornes and didn't like them, both have bought the ergo baby after trying mine on. The ergobaby is my best baby buy by far

Try an Ergo or Tula or Beco Gemini before buying a BB.

What bittapitta said. I had a Baby Bjorn for DC1 and used it for DC2 until she got a bit big to carry on the front. Since she dislikes the buggy, plus I now have a 4yo to handle too, I bought an Ergo when DC2 was about 10mo so I could carry her on my back. Wish I'd had it from the start with DC1 and really been able to get my money's worth! It's fabulous. Much easier on me (I had two CS and my lower back is shot...), baby is in a better position... I don't bother with the buggy now and will still be using it for ages yet (DC2 now 15mo).

Don't get a Manduca! I did and it's big bulky and not at all comfortable imo.

Sparrowlegs248 · 19/08/2015 16:26

I just couldn't get the manduca on by myself. You should go to a good stockist and try some on.

With my baby bjorn, the New version, the baby is close enough to kiss, head is supported, and I haven't had back ache. Everyone is different I guess.

pootlebug · 19/08/2015 16:29

Google your local sling library - you should be able to try on a variety of carriers there and work out which one works best for you and your baby's shape. Different carriers work for different people.

Thank you everyone, this is really helpful. I don't think I'll for for a Baby Bjorn now. I looked at the Ergo carriers and they look great. Which one would you recommend? Something that is easy to use, good for carrying a heavy baby and with good support for my back would be ideal.

Thanks, Sarah
