Suggestions for good overnight cloth nappy for 8 week old girl?

my ds is 8 weeks old and I have been experimenting with cloth nappies in the last month eg trying all the different ones etc. Can anyone recommend a good nappy for overnight as she is starting to sleep for longer periods of time 4-6 hours at a time.

bumbles are fabulous night nappies and they're very adjustable size wise. the booster is attached with poppers so you can ake it out if not needed for a smaller baby or leave it in if she's a very heavy wetter.

I found Tots Bots bamboozles to be the dryest nappies - but I have to confess, I put DS in a disposable overnight now as I just can't find ANY cloth nappy absorbent enough to contain the vast amount of pee he produces overnight and I can't be bothered to be waking him up to change him.

bamboozles were leaking by midnight with both my 4 month old and 21 month old.

bumbles, or pinned prefolds or terries. only things that can cope with serious wetters! (and i've tried loads!!)

SenoraPostrophe · 21/11/2006 17:30

bamboozles are enough for ds2 (but not cotton tots bots). but if that's not enough, surely a bamboozle with a booster is? I always found with the others that even cotton tots hold more wee than a disposable though.

PinkTinsel · 21/11/2006 17:30

do disposables survive the night for you MG?

when we use them on weekends away they burst the awful gel all over dd's bum by morning

mother ease airflow are the best wraps for most nasppies

Flamesparrow · 21/11/2006 18:45

Wambamboo with a microfibre cloth or mother of eden booster work best for my munchkins

PinkTinsel · 21/11/2006 18:47

ooo, forgot about nature babies dizzy diapers, got one a while back and it's fab too.

moljam · 21/11/2006 18:54

we just use terry boosted with fleece and terry boosters.and either fleece or wool wrap(prefer wool though),it lasts all night.apparently minki huggle is a fave but ive not tried one.

juuule · 21/11/2006 19:45

Tots Bots cotton with a mother-ease wrap.

selee · 21/11/2006 19:58

Try a minki Huggle, I do and they last 12 hours. Or a Tots Bots unbleached. I have also used an organic sandys boosted with a bamboo booster from Geobel. All of these work well overnight on my 4 month old boy (but i would say if I had to chose it would be the Huggle).

MissGolightly · 21/11/2006 21:14

PinkTinsel, sorry for the late answer to your q but yes, I do find disposables last the night and haven't had one burst so far, and DS is a very heavy wetter. I use nature care baby (just the one) and when DS is getting towards the upper end of the weight scale I go up a size at night (he doesn't wriggle about much at night so the extra room doesn't matter, but the extra gel helps).

Have to say though, I've never tried a bumble so perhaps that's the answer!

MrsWaggsnapps · 21/11/2006 21:21

Bumbles are good, also Baby Beehinds (either hemp or bamboo) soak up loads. I use hemp inserts to boost between the nappy and the wrap, that way the leg elastic works well on the nappy. Also make sure your wrap is nice and roomy at night

makesachange · 22/11/2006 16:37

Bamboo is the most absorbant fabric per weight of fabric. I have never been able to get my DS through the night without several boosters in a Bamboo nappy though... and usually a fleece or wool wrap works best.

It's really trial and error depending on what sort of wetter she is, so to be honest although everyone has a favourite, it's unlikely to be the perfect thing for your child.

One thing I will say is to go with what she feels - if she's uncomfortable she will say so. Obviously add some boosting in if you find she's regularly too wet when she wakes, but go with what works for her.

Similarly, as she's only little still she may look buried in a boosted nappy. Again, don't worry unless she does - it's not a problem as long as she's comfy and even though it may look uncomfortable it won't be unless she says so - and she will soon tell you!!

Our bamboo boosters are very slim and absorbant and a nice overnight booster for any nappy, but really you can use pretty much anything to boost out your fav fitting nappy.

Bamboozles are great, but Wham-Bamboos are better as they have wider waist tabs which fit for longer over boosted nappies! The booster inside can be taken out to fit better on little babies.

juuule · 22/11/2006 18:08

My experience is that the cotton Tots Bots were more absorbent than the bamboo or hemp nappies. I tried Bamboozles and Ellas House. They were very good but the cotton Tots were/are better for overnight for my dd and haven't needed any extra boosting.

redbeki · 23/11/2006 22:35

In my experience, unless you want to get up and change nappy several times in night ,there are no good cloths to use at night.i use cloths in day ,and a disposable at night.its so much easier..maybe if you use several pads ,might work.good luck.

RealNappiness · 24/11/2006 08:09

I'd recommend the bumbles because you can boost them with as much as you need. I use them and to try and minimise the bulkiness I boost them with Bamboo terries to keep them slim (bamboo is really absorbent).
Good wraps to use with them are Motherease Rikki or Airflow or the Popo wrap which is a bit more roomier to accomodate the extra nappy.

PinkTinsel · 24/11/2006 13:27

redbeki, thats simply not true, unless they've pooed (which they never do) i never change nappies at night. both of mine are often in their nappies from 7/7.30 at night til 8/9 in the morning as this is how long dd sleeps and they're in cloth nappies.

the bumbles are fantastic as like RN said you can boost them alot, same with dizzy diapers (i stuff a medium ize prefold into the dizzy diaper) and for a younger baby the unbleched terry squares work well. for my toddler i use 2 pinned prefolds and although bulky holds fine.

i've had far more problems with disposables that i've had to use on weekends away bursting that awful gel all over dd's bum halfway through the night.

juuule · 24/11/2006 14:16

Same as Pinktinsel, not had a problem with overnight cloth nappies with my babies, either. Redbeki, could it be the wraps that are the problem? I've known mums who have said the nappy has leaked when in fact they have been using a wrap that is too small or the wrap isn't on properly to start with. Once that has been put right there have been no further problems.

FrivolentDemon · 24/11/2006 14:22

I have spent the last 3 mornings in a row ranting about my baby being covered in wee and poo because of leaking disps (my washing machine is broken so had the bright idea to use disps...).

I have more washing than if I'd stuck with cloth... back in cloth and just using mum's machine!!!

redbeki · 25/11/2006 11:35

ok,weather u agree with me or not,its only my opinion on cloths at night.I've never had a disposable burst open, and i have several different sorts of wraps which all fit fine.my dd is just more comfy at night when shes not wet.was giving advice on my experience!

Dragonhart · 25/11/2006 11:58

I think all babies are dif when it comes to what lasts and does not leak. I have tried loads of Disp and found that they didnt leak wee ever but runny poo, yes! But my SIL's son's nappies leak often because he has abottle in his bed to help him sleep so drinks loads through the night. Only the cheap ones 'exploded gel' for me eg Asda's eps and tescos. Pampers never did. I swapped for money really as couldnt afford having two in disp.

Since starting to use washables, I REALLY boost the nappy at night with either hemp boosters or a bamboo terry and then I can just use the same nappes as in the day. I use Wambamboos and terry squares and find they are fine.

redbeki · 25/11/2006 20:17

I agree dragonhart, all babies are different ,we all find what works best for them and us.trial and error .think I will try really padding cloth for a trial run comfy night, thanx. I think fleece liners are fab,as they seem to stay dry when pads underneath get wet.has anyone else tried these?
