There seems be no info around about the best way to deal with the little darlings nostril appendages, without them throwing a fit.

Any suggestions?

sorry for being vague papillon - I started a new thread on a persistent runny nose at the same time you started this!

Afraid I don't have any suggestions to give you - I have the same problem. Although yesterday I went out an bought 4 boxes of Kleenex extra soft tissues to see if that would help!

my dd nose isn´t runny but instead she gets big bits that lots not very attractive on such a beauty as she... and getting them out is a task

I use a cotton bud that I have dampened in hope of hocking it out

what age is your dd? I know you can get a balloon type thing in the chemist that you squeeze and then put to the nose and apparently it sucks (disgusting!) it out. Could this help? I don't know if they actually work though.

Tissy · 07/05/2004 11:58

I'm afraid at times we resorted to a pair of fine tweezers we had at home- dubbed by dh the "bogie forceps"- it was a bit like a surgical procedure removing them, but VERY satisfying!!!

Tissy · 07/05/2004 11:59

The nasal aspirators only work on runny snot- no good on lumps of it

papillon · 07/05/2004 14:52

Well it is of the lumpy nature! I too Tissy have used tweezers but am abit afraid of all that metal sharp insertion so use some blunt edged ones now.

If I can´t get it a shunt it up abit and then she with any luck sneezes it out!

Right don't gag but I use my little finger nail to get them out. We call them bogies (sp) - bogies are hard and snot is runny

papillon · 07/05/2004 15:08

wow nasalness defined!

I was trying not to be too crude Browbeaten and was avoiding the word `Bogie´

The finger does not yet work well for us - dd is too young.
Perhaps I need to grow the nail on my pinky!

Hooray, someone else can't leave their baby's nostrils alone! I have wanted to ask the same question for a long time.

My DS has lumpy bits in his nose and they're stuck to the side too so are quite difficult to get out. I would leave them alone, except that they are so large that when he breathes he makes a snotty noise. Not nice

My question is, how do you get your baby to stay still using tweezers?

handbagaddiction · 18/11/2004 18:06

OK - I rip off a bit of kitchen towel, grab hold of the centre of the piece, then twist it to make a pointed bit and then shove that up dd's nose in an attempt to kook them out.

Used to use little finger nail but she got wise to that!!

karen01 · 18/11/2004 19:31

When I had DD I remember someone telling me to rub vasiline over the bridge of the nose and this lostens any hard bogies and lets them come out. If my memory serves me correctly this did work.
Or use cooled boiled water, put some on a cotton bud and drop a few droplets up the nostril, this makes the baby sneeze hence they should come out.

I find that DS (5months) lets his out when swimming or in the bath if any water gets up his nose.

HTH

dab a wet flannel on the nostrils a few times, massage the sides of the nose gently, repeat as necessary - bogies loosen and squidge out - older children can then be told to blow - have a tissue ready !!

Alternatively, take them swimming as Karen suggested
