terry users - which wrap do you use?

Just curious what wraps others find roomy enough for terrys but comfy enough for babies. Currently using Kushies wraps on DS (6months) but he is growing quickly and I'm going to have to get bigger size soon... Not sure what to get. Think I'll have to go for poppers rather than velcro as he has just discovered how to open velcro!

Any suggestions welcome

I used boots vinyl ones , none of this new fangle wrap things, just platic pants.

juuule · 19/11/2006 13:16

Mother-ease airflow always did a good job for me.

MummyPig · 19/11/2006 13:42

When I used terries for ds1 all our wraps were ME air flow too.

Thanks for the replies... Did think about plastic pants but DH said he doesn't like them - too complicated to put on (?)

Will give ME airflow a go though - have heard of them but never tried them Worth a go...

Hi asur - I started off using plastic pants but abandoned them as they seemed to create such a damp, warm atmosphere that couldn't be good for his little bum. After a period using no wrap (and getting through about 6 vests a day!) I switched to Motherease Airflow. They're great - there are usually a lot for sale second hand on ebay if the new price puts you off (it did me!).

Dragonhart · 20/11/2006 13:05

I use ME airflow with terrys too, and I have toddler terrys which are huge! They are really good because they are quite balloony so will fit around all the terry. Never had a leak with them!

toastee · 20/11/2006 13:11

I'd be inclined to try the plastic pants (or rubbers as my mum still calls them !)they are cheap and you can always abandon them if you dont like them later.

My son is nearly 4 and still in terries :-( admittedly he isnt in nappies full time but I do put them on to go out and for overnight use and everytime I just use plastic pants without any trouble.

I use the simple pull on ones which dont have any fastenings he can fiddle with, so they can be a pain to put on at times but we manage and once on they dont bother him nor does he ever get sore.

To be honest getting a nappy on is far more of a chore than the pants, pad folding doesnt work and nippas come undone so I now stick to pins. They work far better but trying to calm and older toddler who hates nappy pins can be a battle particularly if we are out and about and he'd rather not go through the ordeal of a change.

I think the last lot of plastic pants I bought were only about £3 for six pairs so youve little to loose if they dont suit.

littlepiggie · 20/11/2006 21:24

dont like those plastic pant, they feel damp and sweaty.

We use ME on the day and fleece at night.

snugglebumnappies · 22/11/2006 16:28

I would go for poppers over velcro/aplix anyday, I have found aplix has a limited life span even with careful washing/drying. Motherease airflow are excellent and Nature Babies wraps are a cheaper alternative. Motherease have recently put up the price of many of thier products, in particular the wraps are costing me a lot more wholesale than they were three months ago.

twinklemegan · 22/11/2006 18:19

Ditto. I find it very difficult to get a good fit over terries with the velcro wraps.

PinkTinsel · 23/11/2006 11:32

mother ease airflow during the day or a wool wrap at night

maisiemog · 23/11/2006 12:23

I am rubbish with terries, but when I attempted to use them I used a cotton bottoms wrap, now called bummis superwhisper. I found it a really nice fit and very compact, I have found them really long-lasting (18 months and counting for the medium size) also a lot cuter than Mother-ease.

toastee · 23/11/2006 19:09

I'm beginning to think I'm the only one here who still uses plastic pants and nappy pins :-(

juuule · 23/11/2006 20:28

I did use plastic pants for a long time but the quality of the Boots and Mothercare ones became so dire. They had become more like crisp bag plastic with very thin elastic around legs. When I washed them the plastic split and they didn't seem to last as long as the earlier versions. So I started to look around for something better. I did find some pul ones by Nature Babies which were a huge improvement but I also found the wraps. And lots of other things too
As regards pins - I still think pins hold everything in place on a terry nappy much better than anything else. Although I have used nippas too.

twinklemegan · 23/11/2006 21:54

I'm using nippas, the main reason being it's hard enough to persuade DH to use terries without making him use pins as well. Hang on, I'm doing all the nappy changes anyway

PinkTinsel · 23/11/2006 21:59

at least your dh can manage nippas! mine has a nervous breakdown at anything that isn't a prefold!

twinklemegan · 23/11/2006 22:08

Not sure he can TBH, Pink! Every nappy change that isn't the disposable for night time he seems to be 'busy'!!

PinkTinsel · 24/11/2006 12:52

hmmmm, sounds familiar!

asur · 24/11/2006 19:17

thanks for all the tips... have ordered a couple of ME airflow wraps from ebay, will see how I get on with them.. Also have a bumsmugglers fleece wrap which is very cute

I have to say DH is quite good with the terries now - he can't fold them though! He's pretty much had to get used to changing nappies as he's a SAHD and DS is allergic to disposables and has grown out of his AIO's and I refuse to buy more... Poor DH!

agree with Juuule on plastic pants - had a look in mothercare and just didn't like the feel of them, didn't think they would last very long...

twinklemegan · 24/11/2006 22:32

Mine will be a SAHD from January - hope he gets over his phobia by then!

mandy4 · 07/12/2006 10:52

I bought terry nappies and kushie wraps before baby number two but only just started using them cos he was too wriggly !! (he is seven months now!). I am having mega trouble trying to get trousers to go over them cos they are bulky. Any suggestions???

whenevilgotstuckupthechimney · 07/12/2006 17:08

i use tots bots, motherease and one cotton bottom wraps- have never had any problem with fitting them over terries! i think it very much depends on what type of fold you use and also whether you have a tubby baby or a skinny malink like my dd!!

mandy4 · 07/12/2006 19:44

Thanks for that. The problem is not the wraps they are fine its the clothes !! I have seen the cut-for-cloth range of clothing but they seem very expensive. Any other suggestions ??

whenevilgotstuckupthechimney · 07/12/2006 20:57

sticking to tracksuit bottom-type trousers is easier as they stretch more than jean/cord-types, or if you prefer jeans, just buy the next size up and roll up the bottoms. occasionally you get the cut for cloth bottoms or similar on ebay but they are still quite expensive

whenevilgotstuckupthechimney · 07/12/2006 20:58

also you could just experiment with different folds? depending which fold you prefer can affect the bulkiness of the bottom!!
