Are microfibre nappies any good and are they as healthy as natural fibres?

Have always stuck to terry and hemp nappies, then branched out into bamboo for the 2nd sized ones. I loved my bamboozles, but currently just can't get them dry fast enough so ds is wearing disposibles alot of the time, which I'm feeling very guilty about. I was thinking about getting some of the microdiddy diapers by nature babies as they seem a very reasonable price. I tried a fluffle but didn't like the shape of it. Is microfibre healthy to use on your child's bottom. I'm worried it might make him feel too hot? Sorry if this sounds too odd it's just I use cloth nappies as they are the natural choice and I'm having difficulty getting my head round synthetic ones. But we need some nappies that dry virtually immediatly as I can't afford to buy that many of them and we can't afford to keep tumbling the bamboozles.

I don't know about the brands you mention, but I understand that microfibre is more of a weaving technique than a type of material. It can be made of 100% cotton (and maybe hemp, too?) nowadays (originally it was just polyester). So can be reasonably eco-friendly, and not as likely to overheat. You could look for "polymer" free and ask the nappy sellers to make sure before you buy.

Do you know of any brands of natural microfibre? and what are polymers and why should I avoid them? Thanks very much for your reply.

i don't use microfibre myself, but i had to research it once. Think if you look at the usual nappy sellers, Twinkletwinkle, NappyLady, etc. you'll find some inserts if not whole nappies made of cotton microfibre.

Well, I may be wrong! But you can always email the ladies that run the nappy sites to see if they can help.

I was a terry and hemp user, myself, wonder why you aren't happy with them, any more?

I am happy with the hemp and terry nappies, but just can't get them to dry fast enough at the moment. I can't dry outside as it's too wet and we're not really having the heating on at the moment so they take forever to dry indoors. The reason I thought of microfibre was the only thing I liked about the fluffle I bought was that it was almost dry when you took it out of the washing machine. However the shape just didn't fit my ds very well. Thanks for your help I have browsed many sites looking at microfibre nappies today.

i have just started using the fuzzi bunz nappies - not sure what they're made of but they come out of the washining machine almost dry and are very absorbent. they are stuffables so you can stuff them with anything you like - muslins, prefolds so you could use whatever you already have and would only need to buy the nappy itself...

Thanks, I have tried Fuzzibunz but didn't get on with them yet and my son needs the petite toddler size to fit his waist but the large to fit his thighs! I have kept the large though to try again when he is bigger. Think I will order a nature babies micro diddy I know I'm worried about putting him in something synthetic, but dispos are synthetic and I'd prefer him to be in washables.

why not just use folded muslins? cheap, natural fibres and dry very quickly. there are lots of folds demonstrated on the nappy lady website, but you may know them already from using terries

snugglebumnappies · 22/11/2006 14:32

Hi, I think the Nature Babies are really good value for money and a nice slim fitting nappy as well. They are lined with a cotton jersey material so they are a bit more "natural" next to the skin than other microfibre nappies, as usual I don't find they sell as well as the Tots Bots microfibre, but I think that has nothing to do with performance and all to do with brand names!

tutu100 · 22/11/2006 19:21

Thanks snugglebum, I have ordered one to try. I liked their diddy diaper when he was smaller so I'm hoping this will be just as good. Thanks workforaliving for your suggestions, I have my flat terries, but he's so wriggly the nappy tends to unfold before I can get it on him. Once he's a bit more compliant they will be great.

Do let us know how you get on with the microdiddy. I noticed them a while back, but I haven't come across anyone who has tried them.

mrsbumble123 · 23/11/2006 09:26

I've used the microdiddy - they are great for slim babies and don't look too bulky. Dry in fast time as well.

maisiemog · 23/11/2006 12:31

Hi there, thanks for that. I was wondering about the absorbency, how do you find it?
