DS is trying to eat my hairbrush. Should i stop him, or enjoy the peace and quiet?

DS (11 mo) will not go to sleep this evening. If I sit him up, he cries, so I've given up and let him lie on the bed while I also lie here to stop him falling off. I'm exhausted, as he's not a great sleeper. He has found a hairbrush on the bed, and is happily trying to eat it. if I take it off him, he'll cry. Should I just let him work away and enjoy the silence, or is a hairbrush really gross for him to eat?

Which bit is he eating, and how much hair is in the brush?

The handle, and a moderate amount.

He'll eat a lot grosser than a hairbrush handle soon enough when he's toddling round the park, enjoy the peace I say.

oh god if hes not crying leave him to it..that was always my motto and mine are now 18 and 21..no harm came to them

Now he's on the bristle end, but he's more waving it about rather than eating it. I expect he'll clunk himself on the head soon.

I let DD (18mon) eat all sorts of things if it keeps her quiet. Feeding the dog her oatcake and then eating it is a special low point. Although I do try to stop her doing that!

Hygiene hypothesis, right? I'm doing it to stimulate her immune system

i let ds chew the hosepipe the other day :S it seemed like the least bad option of all the things he wanted to do... and willingly give him my hairbrush as distraction during nappy changes!
