Now I know Sunny D is one of the worst things you can give to your child, and I know fruitshoot aint the perfect alternative (to water of freshly squeezed)...but am rather intrigued (sp?) about this whole fruit shoot hatred thing, lol...please...what is so seriously bad about them?
Like I saidm I don't tned to feed them to my Kids but they have had them!

i used to have fruitshoot on lunchbreaks wheni was wokring back home in midlands; i have had to stop having them as i am asthmatic and they made it worse. ( nothing else in my diet at that time had changed, just the lunchtime drink, when i stopped drinking them completely i was loads better.) haven't touched one since and i refuse to give something to dd because it purports to be healthier than water!

Aspartame...avoid at all costs! I haved correlated aspartame with worsening my own MS symptoms.

I despise the fact is seems to appear in ever playgym in the country, I despise it is made out to be 'healthy' and 'better than' other drinks when it is water packed with additive crap that may have been in the same factory as an orange was in once. And I despise the fact that there is a premium on the price for it's 'healthy' credentials. But hey, no added sugar must be wonderful mustn't it?

Grrrhhh....marketing? I'm with Bill Hicks (RIP) there

main problem is that they aren't a shoot of fruit! naive mums think they're a good way to get their child to have some fruit..someone on here already said that themself.

Hi I think it was onlyjoking that made the comment on "how else to get fruit into the Kids" and I think ,she was only joking at the time...lol! Surely no one is as naive to actually think that they are brilliant and healthy?
Maybe because I feel that no one would be, maybe that is why I can't understand the MN-Hate of it, lol! Not saying I think it's a brill drink, etc...I just could never understand why on MN there are such strong feelings about it!

Have'nt read all posts.

DD has sugar free, well diluted squash or milk at home. But when out we often grab a fruitshoot if I have'nt got a juice for her or we are eating in restaurant which serves them for children

and at DD's birthday party we served Fruitshoots - only 1 per child and easier than giving a load of 3-6 yrs olds drinks in cups to be spiled. But one dad would'nt give it to his son so ended up doing the squash thing - which spillied as predicted (smug emoticon)!

However a week later we took DD to se her Grt Grandad, who always buys in loads of goodies when one of his Grt granchildren visit - not to mention his pregnant Graddaughter in-law.
He operates an 'if you can see it you can have it policy' and being 82 years old I am not about to deprive him of the joy of giving to DD. But he doesnt always get the sugar free versions, and in the course of our visit (most of the day) she must have consumed 7 of the smaller multi-pack Fruitshoots. (4 orange with sugar, 3 purple sugar free). It's very warm in his house and she was running around so let her get on with it.
Plus DH and I also drink like fish, at home we all drink from pint glasses or similar size cups.

Anyway halfway home DD woke from the usual nap she has for the 2 hour journey and just cried and screamed - I have never heard her cry like this since she was a little baby with wind pains. And being stuck on the M1 in a jam there was not much I could do to comfort her but reach my hand round my seat for her to hold - all very distressing. After about 20 minutes she fell asleep again and woke as we pulled on to the drive. She seemed fine and said she was okay when asked. Dont know what happened but we are putting it down to the large amount of Fruitshoots consumed.

She still has the odd one, but after telling Grt grandad about it he now makes sure he only has a couple on display as well as milkshake drinks and Minute Maid (my fav)

yes i was joking when i said it was the only way to get fruit into my kids,
you see my kids have autism and whilst both girls have a fab diet and will eat anything DS has a very very limited diet, he will only eat things of certain textures/colours.
he won't eat anything that has touched anything on the plate, he won't eat anything that is the wrong shape, at one time he would only eat perfectly straight chips
so whilst in principle i agree with healthy food/drinks in practice it is very different/difficult.

hmm not keen on fruit shoot through personal experience, first time my daughter had one, her behaviour was just bizzare, she was totally hyperactive to the point hse couldnt settle at anything and spend about ten mins walking about in circles! never given them too her since as even DH noticed she was acting very peculiar!
