Vauxhall Vectra Airbags

Hi - I am expecting my first baby next month and have a standard backward facing baby seat. I have a new Vauxhall Vectra and can't work out how to turn the passenger airbag off so that I can put the baby seat in the front - does anyone have any ideas?

Thanks!

no no no my dear.

you shouldnt even use the front seat with the airbag turned off, as in a crash the force can switch it on again.

baby seat must go in back, it is safer in the back anyway xx

but you may have probs in a vectra cause the seat belt buckles are long, and are likely to cause buckle crunch!

my dad has a vectra, im a nanny and have 5 car seats and not 1 of them fits safely in my dads vectra car!

also vauxhalls dont have very long seat belts so it may be worth checjking that the seat belt s long enough for your childs seat?

Do u have ISOFIX points? that may be the safest option (or even only option) when u get to the next stage car seat (assuming your seat belts are the same as my dads!, which of course they may not be!)

NannyL,

Can you tell me what kind of seats you have? I'm currently expecting and have yet to find a car seat for my new'ish Vectra. Didn't realise what a nightmare it would be when I bought the thing! And I can't sell it...lol...only had it for a couple of months!

Thanks all!

I've used second stage car seats in my Vectra before with no problems at all so I'm not overly concerned about that - I just wanted a way of knowing what my little one was doing whilst I was driving - looks like I might have to settle for one of those mirrors on the back windscreen and keep the stage 1 car seat in the back after all.

Will get the base for the stage 1 car seat out at the weekend and see if it fits - I'm pretty sure I don't have Isofix.

maybe its just my dads cay that has very long steat belt buckles...

but the britax rock a tot, free way, renaissance and maxi cosi priori all did NOT fir due to buckle crunch and i wasnt convinced about my britac highliner either

however as its my Dada car and not mine, my charges would never travel in it so it wasnt a problem... i just noticed that if ever myself or sister had children ourbabies would prob not be able to travel in his car!

It is VEY important that the buckles arnt 'crunching' cause if they are and you are in a crash the buckles may break and child / seat is effectively not strapped in during the most crucial moment ever to actually be strapped in!

Daisyhun, I have rear facing seat in the back of the car and have a huge circular mirror that attachs to the headrest - available Mothercare and Halfords for £10, easier that messing around trying to stick one of those tiny mirrors to the rear window. As they are huge they show a lot and are easy to position.

Also I have a vauxhall Zafira and Corsa before that - vauxhall sell their own car seat which has a chip in it that switches off the airbag so you can put a rear facing car seat in the front, albeit theirs.

Double check that though, as obviously I have not got a vectra.
