What surprising thing has your child done today that made you smile?

My DS was 10 last week. We were walking to a shop today and he reached up and put his hand in mine. He hasn't done that for a while...I thought maybe he was growing out of public displays of affection. It made my day. What unexpected thing has your child done today to make you smile?

My son is 2 and 2 months, and today when he got out of bed he ran to give me a hug and said "Hi mummy howahyoooo" (How are you) for the first time. It made me go all mushy inside.

I took my toddler to a local free fun day today and there was petting animals. His care with a rabbit made me smile, he really does love animals

mangoespadrille · 28/05/2015 18:46

DD 5 months laughed hysterically as I performed Agadoo for her. It was so cute I ended up doing it about 15 times!

My 15mo pointed to her socks and said socks. It sounded a lot like sex but still. Made my heart leap.

I was half snoozing on the sofa the other day when my 4yo DD came over and stroked my hair and then put a blanket over me, heart/melt.Envy

MyraForum · 28/05/2015 20:00

4mo dd managed to grab her feet with her hands for the first time yesterday. She's spent all day today holding onto them and looking ridiculously pleased with herself. Very cute!

My 10m old DC7 took his first independent step on Monday.
I actually shouted "Yess, Yess!" and punched the air.
my clever babySmile

DS1 (13) - woke up at 2pm (don't even...) and hugged me and said with a grin "good morning dearest mother" Grin Grin

DS5 (5) told me that "parents in the bin and the kids will win". charming. made me laugh out loud.
Grin

DD (3) told me I was a big butterfly girl and she was a little butterfly girl.Smile also told DS5 to shut the stairgate so baby won't fall down.

they often do or say things that make me laugh and feel happy.
(for sake of thread I won't mention list of annoying stuff they do all the timeWink )

Crazyqueenofthecatladies · 28/05/2015 20:02

Her first headstand. She's three!

ZingDramaQueenOfSheeba · 28/05/2015 20:03

for the record DS1 always does that bear hug thing so it's not surprising. but makes me happy. Smile

fluffygreenmonsterhoody · 28/05/2015 20:05

I've just had a stomach op and we're trying to explain to 3yo DS why he can't scramble all over me.
Me: Look DS, I have a big plaster on my tummy
DH: Can you remember why mummy has a big plaster on her tummy?
DS: Because she's got a big tummy.

DD (21 months) said "thank you mummy" when I gave her an orange. With a big smile and a little snuggly lean into me. Smile

DaysAreWhereWeLive · 28/05/2015 20:12

DS (2.9) took himself to the toilet, wiped his bum, flushed the loo, and washed his hands. And it didn't involve me at all! Amazing.

Then I sent him to the kitchen to bring me biscuits. I knew there was a reason I had him.

ivykaty44 · 28/05/2015 20:13

Self assembled an IKEA table on her own and sorted the lamp and shade out with bulb

stubbornstains · 28/05/2015 20:13

5 year old DS, who comes up to my waist, trying to help me up from sitting on the ground (I'm 39 weeks pregnant). "It's OK Mummy, I've got you"...me desperately trying to pretend I wouldn't just flatten him if I went over Grin.

maresedotes · 28/05/2015 20:17

DD2 (7) reading a charity box, opening her purse and putting 50p in (leaving 50p in her purse).

Came to sit on my lap for a 'big hug' (Teletubbies anyone?!)
He's 12 and taller than me Grin

BabyOnBoob · 28/05/2015 20:23

11 month old dd escaping while I was changing her nappy. It turned into a game of me retrieving her and her escaping again. She was laughing and shrieking with joy, it really lifted my heart Smile

trilbydoll · 28/05/2015 20:26

DD2 (6 days old) pooed all over DH's hand and arm. I laughed harder than I have her whole life so far.

silveracorn · 28/05/2015 20:28

DS2 turned into an angel today. He revised for end of year exams for about four hours without any whinging then bounced off to research different curry recipes because he's decided he'll cook for us tomorrow.

DS1 too poorly to make anyone smile. Real flu.

Thurlow · 28/05/2015 20:29

fluffy, that's brilliant

Similarly, I was trying on a dress I'd bought that looked fine in the shop. It did not look fine at home. I was chatting to DD(3) throughout and said I didn't like the dress as my tummy was too big.

She patted it and said, "Never mind, Mummy, I'm sure the baby will be out soon"

I'm not pregnant Hmm
