Tantrums/crying in 2.5 year old

I have a lovely daughter who is very tall for her age and articulate. She is strong willed and likes to do everything by herself, and has a lot of tantrums. Some are obvious (i.e. she will walk to the playground very well holding my hand but scream and refuse to walk on the way back). But recently she has started really crying and screaming 'Nooooo!' for ages, very loudly. Sometimes this happens at bed time and sometimes in the morning when she wakes up, and sometimes at other points in the day when she's tired. It's quite sad but nothing seems to stop it, except perhaps if one gave in to her unreasonable demands (i.e. have a biscuit after having got into bed with light off). She seems really sad and we don't know what to do.

Has anyone else had this? The tantrums I can handle but the really sad crying/screaming I cannot.

p.s. She is wake from 7am til 6.30 pm. She refuses naps (since a few months ago) but will occasionally nap in the pram (but again goes to sleep and wakes up screaming).

I can't give you much advice but my dd is like that same age .
What we do is stay calm and ask her what is wrong but most of the time it dosnt work so I just hold her and cuddle her and tell her why she can't put her hand down the toilet etc its heartbreaking to watch I know but your not the only one . Sorry told you am not much help its just i couldn't not write something
