Sling recommendations - poss boba 4g or ergo?

Due dc2 end sept/early oct - dd1 will be just over 2 so definitely want a good sling for no.2, especially for first few months. Have been recommended the boba 4g and an ergo one - had the baby bjorn for dd1 and really didn't get on with it, it started to hurt my shoulders after about 15 mins and I barely used it. Want something that spreads the weight more evenly and more comfy/supportive for baby - any recommendations between these two slings or any other brands? I want to be able to use it from newborn ideally. Thanks in advance!

We started with a close caboo which DH wasnt confident enough to use but I loved it. Now have a Tula which we both think is brilliant.

I won a Boba 4g (sorry!) and it is absolutely fab - I love it. Much better than my baby Bjorn which was brilliant when DD was little but no good after about 5/6 months. I only got it when she was 9m, so I'm afraid can't comment on what it's like with a newborn, but I can carry my 20lb 11m old with ease both front and now back, and I imagine using it for a long time yet. I was thinking my carrying days were over and I'm so happy they're not! I've never tried an ergo though.

Best advice - find a sling library, try them all out, figure out what works for you. But remember what feels great with a newborn won't necessarily be the same with a wriggly 8mo, or curious toddler!

After the first few months of Moby wrapping, I started with an Ergo but it never fit me right (5'8", very long bodied) so switched to the Boba 3g which I loved, and it fit DC for longer as it has the fabulous stirrups!

I loved my ergo - its the favourite sling I had :) However I'd still recomend a karime/calin bleu/moby (can be bought on ebay) for the first 4 months as its so snuggly.

I wouldn't use any swing forward facing.

Definitely get to a sling library. I tried 5 soft structured and ergo was best for me. DS screamed in one.
I had a caboo for the first 4 months and it was fab. DS used it for tiny DS when she was too small for anything except a wrap

Another vote for close caboo for first few months followed by the 4G - loved both of them! We still have the 4G, best thing about it for me of that as well as being really comfy (i could honestly wear it all day) it's super quick & easy to adjust for either my 5 month old or my 2.5yr old, depending on who's going in the buggy! Massive word of advice re cost: eBay!!! Bought both mine on there and both in fab condition (they also hold their resale value reeeally well!) Smile

I had a boba stretchy wrap for the first couple of months, which was ace. It's not as comfortable now that she's heavier - they bounce around more. Having said that, I still use it sometimes at home if she's being clingy.

I had a boba 4g from birth too, but didn't get on with it - I'm only 5 foot and it felt too big. Also I could wear the stretchy all day and pop her in and out/put it on under a coat or cardigan, so no need to take it off when you get somewhere etc, but could only wear the 4g over coats.

I tried a Manduca after that, which was nicer with the cross over straps, but fundamentally I didn't like buckles for everyday wear. I bought a Hop Tye mai tai that was brilliant from 4 -7 months.

She's 8 months now and I use the boba 4g for quick trips - popping into sainsburys etc - lives in the car and is quicker and easier than faffing with the buggy. Our new purchase is a Little Lives s3 backpack, which is amazing - I'm using it for everything other than really short trips. She loves it, can sleep in it, I can carry all stuff in the rucksack part of it.

So, am a baby carrier addict.
