My wife has just gone out. Leaving me in charge of our 2 1/2 year old girl and our 8 week old boy for the first time. My girl is in bed, although refusing to come down to deal with my present problem. My boy has just kicked the contents of his bath all over the kitchen, including his towel and pajamas. My problems are as follows.

  1. I cant multitask
  2. The kitchen is **d
  3. The baby's clothes are all wet
  4. So is his new nappy
  5. which 'new' nappy do I use...The terry, the fitted toweling nappy, the pampers, or the green tushie thing
  6. My beer is full of water....not too much of a problem as I have been in the pub all afternoon, and it was quite strong to start with.

So what do I need to do first, the baby is quite happy in the bath, and as he has kicked most of the water out of the bath, there is hardly any risk of drowning.. Do I go upsatairs for the new nappy( please recommend which type.) I think I could multitask for the first time in my life and get a new baby-grow (but what if I choose the wrong colour? - what colour is right anyway.

What about my beer, will it be ok with the dilution, do I need to go out and get another one? Do I need to get a babysitter etc. etc. aaargh.......advise please

does anyone know if a 'henry' hoover can suck up water?

no. reccommend you get down on hands and knees with a bendy straw. that's what women usually do in your situation.

Greensleeves · 10/11/2006 22:43

I reckon this is VVV or Hunker dicking around

sorry, in a beer only mood. I know mothers never put themselves first...but bendy straws, never.

lol at "dicking". very apposite!

WriggleJiggle · 10/11/2006 23:17

Of course Henry's can. Its a bit like beer though, seems a good idea at the time, but gives you one hell of a headache the next morning. Not to be reccomended.

Use a teaspoon and scoop it up.

so it might be for real???!!!

DrinkUpThyZider · 11/11/2006 22:35

Well what a day, had to go out and get new flooring today. My wife was mad for a while...but I am now happy to say both have been laid satisfactorily...I think, how do you tell?

Tonight I came up with the perfect answer to the baby kicking water all over the floor. Involve an older sibling...They tend to (mainly involuntarily)absorb quite a lot of the splashes on their own clothes if they are stood at the end of the infant's bath. (Just to help paint a picture, we bath the young'un on a kitchen worktop). If you stand the said older child at the end of the work top, obviously on a chair - their own clothes absorb most of the splashes. The older child seams to enjoy the shower. As long as you can keep the 'splash guard' from falling off the chair with hysterics, this does save time drying the floor. Time you can invest on the older child's own bath time, our older child bathes in a proper bath. If you give the older child an 'affectionate' squeeze over their own bath before undressing them, you also save water on their subsequent bath. This is advise I am sure you will all find invaluable.

looks a bit lonely on your thread dutz. thought i'd stop by to see how you were doing..... is that tumbleweed i see blowing down your hallway??

bloomingnora · 15/11/2006 20:25

Just found this - appears to be my husband, unless anyone else got home on Friday and found the kitchen floor soaking wet and the baby in different pyjamas...Have to say that I don't remember him being this funny (also don't remember being satisfactorily laid...and nor is the floor)

DrinkUpThyZider · 17/11/2006 22:41

Yes bloomingnora,I think I maybe your husband. The flooring, pajama, drowning thing is just too much of a coincidence. How are you, it feels like we have not spoken for weeks, you are always on mumsnet. The youngest is crying...Is it my turn to sort him out? (I apologise if you are not my wife..if you aren't, what are you doing next Wednesday?)
