Washable nappies - Poo down the sink?

Washable nappy users, how do you deal with your DCs poo?

We use little lamb pocket nappies and it says in the instructions never to soak them, just to put straight in to wash. But you need to get rid of any big lumps of poo that have missed the nappy liner right?...And so errm, sometimes I've washed it off down the bathroom sink as it was the most convenient think to do. Blush

That didn't feel too bad when the poo was pre weaning... But now it's much more solid and full of lumps I'm having second thoughts!

How do you solve this problem? I'm not putting lumps of poo in the washing machine, and trying to wipe it off with toilet paper is a disaster...

TheScone my Dp had a similar problem with his Victorian plumbing at his restaurant ...but his problem was caused just by using 'luxury' loo roll (Charmin iirc). Choice was an eyewatering sum plus closure for the best part of a week to have drains replaced or cheaper loo roll...we chose the latter...Grin

OK thanks for all your comments. Since you unanimously declared using the sink was not sustainable I've tried hard to implement some of your suggestions in a way that will work for us!

We do use nappy liners (ultra liners) but we've had toilet blockages in the past so never flush them. DS is 9 months so poo is not always that solid and we find that much of it misses the liner around the edges, so there is still loads of poo on the nappy. It's also sticky like tar! We do also have cheeky wipes, but more for DSs bum than for the nappy.

Today I put the nappy on the floor of the bathroom and scraped at it with a load of toilet roll until most of the lumps were removed, toilet paper was then flushed. I then put nappy in toilet and tried to clean it with a flush, but it was all over so quickly I ended up having to hold down the flush lever to get a continuous flow of water into the pan, and then try and rub the worst of the nappy with just one hand! This worked OK and I then squeezed out the excess water put the nappy in our dry sealed plastic box ready for washing today or tomorrow.

This method was definitely more of a faff, and I ended up with poo on the bathroom floor and on the unused toilet roll, and it was a pain having to hold down the flush, but it worked! However I'm still open to suggestions on how to make this process less painful...

Final note: I've never bleached a sink in my life. Perhaps I should now! [shock

Maybe a prewash in the machine? Then just a service wash every so often?

I can't say I ever had to scrape poo, I just binned or flushed Blush the liner, then bunged the nappies in the wash.
