Should I just give up?

Hi guys,

My DS started potty training at 19mths,everyone said it was far too early but I really felt he could do it, and he did!! He was just about dry for the last 3mths (except for the odd accident) and after about a month of me keep sitting him on the toilet/potty he started to ask. I was so proud!! But, the last couple of weeks has been so awful, i'm seriously considering just giving up and putting him back into a nappy. When we go out he'll ask for a wee and always do one, it's great! But at home he just wee's on the floor! I can sit him on the toilet/potty and he'll refuse to go and then wee on the floor 5mins later!!

Am I just kidding myself that he's ready and just call it a day for now or is this just a blip? I dont know it's just driving me nuts, especially when he was doing so well!!

thanks

Karren

I think if it's getting to the point when you are about to go mad then perhaps it would be an idea to return to nappies for a couple of months at least ... it'll take the strain off you and perhaps it'll all work even quicker next time?

Perhaps pull ups so he still has the option, personally I would'nt go back to nappies.

Yes, definitely pull-ups so that you can easily get him on the loo/potty if he's co-operating. (Sorry for any confusion, I think of pull-ups as nappies too.)

Thanks guys,

I've put him back into pull-ups when we go out and pants (but no trousers) at home! He seems a bit more relaxed, as do I (that probably helps!!) We've had a couple of days with just one accident, which is soo good but the first day was awful, he was just constanlty wet!! I've also managed to convince him to use the potty again (he went off it completely!) which is so much easier as we dont have a downstairs toilet and trying to lug 2 and a half stone upstairs all the time quickly, was killing me (he cant walk)!!

Will keep you all posted

Karren xx

Just thought I would let you know that my DD did the exact same thing. She was just over 2 when we trained her though. Everything was perfect for a few months and then all of a sudden she stopped using the toilet and would wee in her pants or the floor. This went on for a good few weeks. By going back to basics and lots of praise for getting it right we are now back on track.

Have been told by lots of people that it is really common for kids to regress, especially when they are trained young. Just ride it out and stay positive.
