formula milk and constipation

My dd is 8 weeks old and has been on Aptamil since she was born. On the normal aptamil she became constipated and had firm paste-like poos. so the hv said to change to the aptamil comfort formula. We started using that 2 weeks ago and saw a massive difference - soft, runny poos.
However dd is now showing signs of constipation again and her poo is more like a thick paste again. I give her cooled boiled water but it doesn't help.
should I change formula brand completely and stop using aptamil?

thick paste consistency is fine. It is constipation when the poo is hard and dry. I would stick with what you are giving for the moment

Changing their milk a lot wont help as their body needs to get used to a different milk everytime. Stick with the milk you're using and keep giving water. Aptamil is meant to be the best for constipation anyway. And yeah, consistency sounds fine.

Thick paste is a fine consistency, straining and pellets are constipation. You will never get the runny mustard poos like you do when breast feeding. Pretty much a formula-type poo is that, always a bit thicker!

If it doesn't look like rabbit poo, you're fine for now. If she's struggling to move it along, so to speak, I'd recommend adding a quick tummy massage to nappy changing time. There's an anticolic massage on YouTube by Isis parenting which I found particularly useful. DD went from 1 mammoth poo every 8-10 days to daily poos.
