My dd is nearly three and I have been potty training her for over four months. She is pretty much dry and can sense when she needs a wee most of the time but she poos in her pants all the time. I have tried reward charts, not making a fuss etc but I am getting a bit frustrated. She started nursery six weeks ago which she loves and has not had an accident there, but I have discovered that if she does start having accidents (which I'm sure she will) they will suspend her! This has made me feel even more tense. Please any suggestions!!

thanks - but at my nursery they have already suspended a boy for two weeks because he had three pooey accidents. I thik its ridiculous but she is enjoying nursery so much I don't want her to miss out.

I have to be honest and say what an attitude to have towards potty training. It is not going to encourage children to use the potty if they get punished like this for accidents. I can appreciate people don't want to have to clean up poo - but hey accidents happen. This approach is more likely going to terrify children about pooing than anything. Can you not find another nursery rather than getting both you and your dd stressed about this.

You have all my sympathy - we're in the same boat with DS. We've been potty training for over 6 months and he's still barely dry and absolutely refuses to do poos on a toilet.

Playgroup are getting increasing cross with him and now tell him off every time it happens which isn't helping as he's even more self concious.

I don't know where we go from here as we've tried evry type of bribery we can think of.

Anyway, good luck to you.

thanks for your messages - I know what you mean about the nursery - if I had known that was their policy I would never have sent her there. At the moment I'm just winging it, hoping that she can get through the mornings without pooing. Has anyone else experienced four months of non successful potty training? Is this normal?

My DD1 is three this month and has been dry for about five months. We delayed potty training cos of a new baby coming into the house. But DD is still not clean and seems to wait until she is wearing a pull-up before she will poo. We have tried reward charts, sweets, a new toy, and a whole number of other bribes but still she won't do it on the toilet. We have now told her that if she doesn't start using the toilet she can't join the "big boys and girls" in pre-school - amazingly she managed to use the toilet at nursery yesterday but still won't at home. Any ideas anyone??????????

you could ask the pre-school what they do and how they manage to get the children to go on the loo.

My dd has only just got it at 3.6 and still has odd accident and we started when she was 2.6.
What we do now is every morning or when I think she needs a poo is rub her tummy from right to left(idea is to follow the bowel)then leave her to play in her room, with a potty not mentioning the idea she needs a poo also no pants on. Usually 5 min later she does a poo. Dont stress it does get better and its normal loads of children do it.
