When I wash the children's nappies the washer smells of poo when I open the door? I use paper liners so no poo goes in to the machine, I check the seal and there are no deposits there. Could anyone tell me what I am doing wrong, and what I can do to remedy the situation. I don't want to have to rinse the empty washer after each time. Waste of water and electricity and gets in the way of all my other 17 loads I need to do...

With the 90 degree wash, do you use a full amount of powder? TIA

No, just do thehot wash with an empty machine, no nappies, no detergent , no nothing! it will help just sort out the machine hopefully.

Do you put the nappies on for a cold rinse cycle before washing?

NAB3 · 09/11/2006 11:21

No. I dry pail them. I use flushable liners so all poo goes down the loo. My rinse would take 30 mins and I felt it may be wasteful. (As would a 90 degree wash which would take over 2 hours. . Have done a load this morning and it wasn't too bad.

Not sur if this will help as you say all of the poo goes down the loo before washing but I had a similar prob a while ago and found a thread saying put nappies through a rinse cycle prior to washing them at your normal temp. This is because modern machines wash in very little water and it is like washing your nappies in hot, concentrated urine/poo, worked for me, no more nasty smells on nappies or in machine and I don't use liner.

I have just done a load but I will defnitely do a rinse next time. They weren't as bad this time (few dirty nappies) but still not pleasant. Thanks.
