Best nappy for Newborn

I use wambamboos and xl terrys for my 15 month old DS. Love them but I only started using washable nappies when DS was about 13 months.

I plan to use wambamboos for new baby due in Jan but want a quick drying alternative for the baby (like my terrys for DS-they would be too big for the new baby).

I bought some bamboo terries but they seem to have all warped into weird shapes so are only suitable for boosters.

Looked around and made about a trillion desicions, only to keep changing my mind. Dont want to spend loads and dont want to buy second hand as plan to use them for other children.

I BF DS and rem that his poos were really explosive and he did one after every feed. Just worried that terrys wont keep it all in. Any advice appreciated-know lots of you have already help on my previous threads so thanks!

i'd just gett he boots terrys, nice and fluffy, mothercare ones are too thin.

look on the nappy lady site, they do a poo-catcher fold i think.

makesachange · 07/11/2006 14:55

How about the new fluffles? They are really soft and snuggly. Make sure you get the new ones though, the old ones were really wierd.

babypowder · 07/11/2006 15:00

Totsbots are fantastic! Really absorbent and fit newbies well.

Cheers Misdee, got my terrys frm Nappymania think they are el;liepants one and they are gorgeous. Bit more expencive but as I want to use them for afew, think it is worth it.

Makesachange are they the ones that dry really quick? Are they made of really artificial stuff?

Babypowder - did you mean size ones? was thinking of tots bots, buying the size two ones and taking the booster out then I can use it for DS with booster in and new baby without?

i really wouldnt touch fluffles. they are awful IMO. we have one, dont like, its only used in emergencies. love bamboozles, love the cotton tots, and the pastel tots as well.

Flamesparrow · 07/11/2006 19:24

Magicalls.

Yes, they are pricey, but if you just want a couple of quick drying ones they are lovely and diddy on a newborn, and they dry soooo fast.

I'm intrigued by the new fluffles... mine were original ones - what's changed about them? (meant to ask you earlier but haven't had a chance to reply yet!!)

alfiesmum · 07/11/2006 20:59

I love the new fluffles, they feel like the lovely fluffy dressing gowns you can get. I will definately be getting a few more...

mamijacacalys · 07/11/2006 21:27

Used the size 1 bamboozles on DD until recently but she is already in size 2 at 4 mnths (91st centile for growth) so I would agree that buying size 2 straight away is better value for money (unless you have a weeny baby that takes a while to grow into them of course).
Have only used bamboozles so don't know about fluffles or other totsbots types.
Hope this helps.

snugglebumnappies · 08/11/2006 18:42

If you want gorgeous terries I would go for the little ewe unbleached one, absolutley gorgeous, I know someone who bought a pack to cut up for her tiny prem baby but couldn't bring herself to do so as they are such good nappies!

Flame, I recently took delivery of some more Fluffles and they are deffinatly very different to the older ones, much softer, not had chance to try one out on DD yet. Tots Bots have not mentioned anything to mr about the change in them (but thatdoesn't surprise me I am always having to chace them for info about things that I think they should really be informing their retailers about!) am about to place another order with them so will try to get to the bottom of it (pardon the pun!).

Bagpuss30 · 08/11/2006 19:04

New Fluffles don't catch your hands the same way as the older ones do - something to do with a finer microfibre IIRC?

For a newborn nappy I would use muslins with a fleece liner, ours were fab. I think that bimbles and bumbles are much underrated too.

009 · 08/11/2006 22:02

Magic Alls by Wonderoo or Kissaluvs with wrap.

Dragonhart · 09/11/2006 11:31

Would really rather a cheap option as want to buy about 6. Magicall are a bit rich for my blood! Also want to use mother ease airflow wraps with the wambamboos so would have to buy those as well.

Bagpuss, if I use muslins do I just fold them like the terrys and nippa them (I use the jo fold for DS) or do I use them like a prefold? . I have some very small wraps I got as part of a pack from my council. They are bambino mio ones, 2 up to 10lbs and 2 up to 11lbs and I have some old muslins which I used for DS when I was burping him (I was going to buy some new ones for the new baby as they are a bit grey looking but should be ok as a nappy). Do you think they would be ok? Also have a couple of prefolds I could use with them I suppose, although never tried them so dont know if I would get on with them.

Guess after that I could just use the wambamboos and get some smaller wraps as I only have large for DS if I wash them every night and dry them on the radiator. Hopefully by the time the radiators are off in the summer, will have started potty training DS Or is that wishful thinking!!

Def like the idea of not having to buy anything else except some wraps!

By the way snugglebumnappies, tried to buy the unbleached little ewe ones when I bought the terrys for DS but they couldnt get the toddler size form their supplier for ages, so bought the elliepants ones instead. They are both lovely, when they are not being used for nappies anymore, plan to dye them and use them as hand towels/tea towels!

Does the baby have a sex yet? I have a couple of periwinkle blue magicalls that I could pass on for a very very reasonable price?

Bagpuss30 · 09/11/2006 13:02

Dragonhart, I just jo folded the muslins and then added a tots booster and a liner (you could always buy a fleece topped booster too of course) and then nippa'd them, yes. I used ME airflow or rikki with them. Ours were old ones from ds1 - they made really good soft nappies because they had been washed so many times before. They were 80 cm muslins I think. We now use them as boosters in a pad fold inside the bumbles at night.

Dragonhart · 09/11/2006 13:12

Flame, no sex yet but if you still have them in Jan and we have a boy, would def like a look!

Bagpuss - cheers. Will try using what I have got to start with.

Sorry another question!

Can anyone tell me if hemp or bamboo boosters are more absorbant?

tutu100 · 09/11/2006 13:18

Dragonhart, where did you get the elliepants toddler terries from and what size are they? Sorry to jump in but need better terries and larger ones.

Dragonhart · 09/11/2006 13:24

here for the elliepantsones and \link{http://www.twinkleontheweb.co.uk/acatalog/Terriesandmuslins.htmlhere for the twinkle terries}

the elliepants ones are bigger. Know they are expencive but they are worth it!

OP posts:
Dragonhart · 09/11/2006 13:24

Sorry here for the twinkle terry ones

OP posts:
tutu100 · 09/11/2006 13:28

thanks very much. which do you think are better, the elliepants or the twinkle ones. Up till now I've used mothercare and they were never very thick or fluffy, and they are now looking very threadbear

Flamesparrow · 09/11/2006 13:36

I feel sure I can hold onto em a bit longer

Dragonhart · 09/11/2006 18:08

Cheers Flame! Will update you on the boy/girl situ in Jan.

Tutu I would say the elliepants ones as they slightly bigger. As thick as some towels I have and wash really well. They are still perfect squares and have a lovely binding round the edge. Dry in a flash too!
