Reusable wipes for cleaning faces?

Hi
I've been using reusable wipes on ds's bottom for a while but now I've started weaning I'm needing to clean food off his face (and lots of other places too!). Does anyone use the same wipes for this or would that be really unhygenic? Would washing at 60c be enough to kill off any bugs? If you use a different set do you leave them in your nappy bucket and wash them with the nappies?

Thanks

Personally I wuld buy some really cheapo flannels and wash them with towels and things rather than the nappies - Would you like to dry your face with your pants?

The microfibre cloths i used to use as boosteres are now mop up cloths, but they get washed with bibs, clothes and towels not nappies. I've made face cloths out of off cuts of flease too. Easy to tell whats what as different fabric to his bum wipes.
I keep a bucket by the nappy buckets for all teh soggy/muckey bibs and muslins and his clothes too.

I wouldn't use the same wipes for cleaning faces as bottoms but then I have different cleaning cloths for kitchen and bathrooms. Flannels are so cheap (in Asda for example) why not use those? You can get lots of different colours if you want to keep seperate for each family member.

I did and mine are (touch wood) never ill. When they got closer to potty training (and grimer nappies) I did have a bucket for dirty nappies and one for wet ones. The cloths (used for 'wet' bottoms and faces/hands sometimes) and flannels and dishcloths went in with the wet nappies at 60, while the dirty nappies and cloths went in at 75. Of course which were which was irrelevant once they had dried!

I use the same ones (obviously not the exact same one, that would be disgusting, I mean the same ones that have been washed!) for bums, hands, face, highchair! DD is 19 months and not had a problem with it. I am hopeless at keeping things seperate and in order so if I did get different ones then they would all end up mixed up in the end!

We have some cut up cotton velour and cut up cotton towels which live in a plastic box. I use them for wiping DS's face and hands when they are clean, and would later use the same wipe for his bum, but not the other way round.
I tend to wash at 50 and always put water straight from the kettle onto the wipes to moisten them, so they are pretty bacteria free. Most bugs are killed at 60 degrees. I know they clean nurses uniforms at around 60 degrees, so it is obviously considered fairly safe.
And yes I would clean my face with my pants, but only after they had been in the washing machine.

If I need to wash ds hands and face after eating etc I damp part of the muslin or bib or whatever has been round his neck during eating. I throw bibs and muslins in with the nappies and washable wipes so I suppose its the same thing as using one of the wipes on his face...

Same here. Have large stack of flannels in kitchen and in downstairs loo for faces and hands post meal. I also shove a couple of dampened ones in a bag if we eat out. The whole lot goes in the nappy bucket, washed at 60, and occasionally at 90 if we have an ammonia overload. Never had any probs!
But I do have totally separate cleaning stuff for the loo, the bath and sink, and kitchen surfaces.

I use flannels too - we have a stash in the dining room, with the bibs and covers for the highchair cushion. They then get put in a tub by the washing machine, thereby saving much walking up and downstairs! (Very idle household, this one). (Off topic but v. cute: When 16 mo DS is really hungry, he helps himself to a bib and wanders around with it disconsolantly, waiting for food to appear.)

I would consider washing at 60 fine to go on and use the wipes on face and botty. Once washed they are all clean!

Cappuccino · 09/11/2006 09:55

I buy J-cloths on a roll to wipe faces with

they're very little and you can wash them dozens and dozens of times; they take no room up in the washer or in a tub. I wipe the face, and put them straight in the washer to go in with the next load.

and if they're really gross (eg ready brek explosion) you can just fling them like you would a bit of kitchen paper

I wash them at 40. I wouldn't use bum wipes on the face, no.

flannels sound the best idea by far.

MrsWaggsnapps · 09/11/2006 16:16

Whilst I use terry cloth for bums, I find fleece excellent for hands and faces. I just run one under the kitchen tap, wipe and then throw it straight in the washer. They can be washed at any temp, and being synthetic, I don't think anything can grow on them!

laundrylover · 09/11/2006 17:07

all my stuff goes in together, flannels, nappies, wipes etc. and i also boost my nappy wash with towels and sheets. no tummy bugs here!
