Feeling both triumphant and guilty!

DD, nearly 6 months has just gone to sleep without her dummy for the first time....so feeling triumphant about that. Unfortunately she cried herself to sleep while I was putting DS1&2 to bed in the next room - I did keep giving her the dummy back and trying to resettle her in between reading their bedtime stories but she kept spitting it out and crying more. Then she went quiet at the end of the boys bedtime and lo and behold she was fast asleep all by herself! But now I feel guilty for letting her cry herself to sleep for the first time. Should I get rid of the dummy now she has managed it once? Feel awful hearing her cry but it was probably less than 10mins in the end.

Don't feel guilty.
If it helps I rock my baby to sleep in my arms, breastfeeding on and off ... and she can if tired/grumpy cry and spit the boob out on and off then suddenly zonk out even in my arms.

So if it was on and off, and you popped in and out, you weren't leaving her to sob at all. Smile

Don't feel guilty. When my second was born the poor thing HAD to be left to cry as I do bedtimes almost all the time on my own so one will ALWAYS be left to cry whilst I'm getting the other out the bath/changing nappies etc. As long as they are fed/warm/safe/loved etc, they are FINE. Turns out, the only thing that would help her get to sleep was to leave her to cry after all other avenues were followed (i.e. fed/changed etc) - me trying to rock her, comfort her etc was what was keeping her up! Same for my first born. You are doing a great job - don't worry xx
