8 month old with bad tummy

My 8 month old DD has what our doctor thinks is a gastro virus. It started on Saturday night with vomiting and a fever then turned into just diarrhoea. The fever has gone now. The doctor's advice was to keep her hydrated and it should pass within a few days.
After every feed she fills her nappy once, maybe twice. We are on day 4 and she still has diarrhoea. I am trying to keep her hydrated, feeding as normal although she doesn't always take it and offering sips of water (limited success) and rehydration solution (she point blank refuses, very tight pursed lips!). She isn't interested in food, other than a couple of spoonfuls of apple and pear purée earlier today, which prompted another full nappy.
I wondered if anyone has experience of this with your LO and how many days it lasted? Also, once your baby started to show signs of recovery, what foods did you introduce to help them get back to normal. I'm overseas and don't have a HV to call upon.

starchy foods are best after a tummy bug e.g. pasta, rice, toast, potato, banana, etc

and keep up the fluids

I was told that mashed banana and crackers or rusks are the best diet for an upset stomach in babies. Apple and pear would probably just make the stool looser so that might be why she is still getting runny BMs.

Are her nappies wet with urine too? If she is getting wet nappies she is probably ok although never any harm in a doctor visit if you're worried!

We went back to the doctor as DD still has diarrhoea and also vomited today. Still not much further on, it seems there is little we can do but ride it out. I feel awful not being able to do much to help DD, she screams with the stomach cramps and gas pains and is inconsolable unti the nappy has been filled or gas been passed. She has lost weight, 300g between Monday and today. But the doctor didn't seem overly concerned. I'm trying to to work out if I'm just being PFB or whether to see a different doctor.

I would suggest asking the doctor to take a stool sample to identify the cause? They can then give you some idea of the duration of the illness and if it needs any other treatment

Are you breast or bottle feeding? could be a temporary lactose intolerance. do you get colief there? It helps break down lactose. or if bottle fed you could try lactose free milk
