Starting up a foreign language again

I was just wondering what people thought about starting up learning of o foreign language again, perhaps after studying to a level/further education 20plus years ago?!

Has anyone done this and where and how?

I haven't done this but think its a great suggestion.
If you have done the language before you will pick it up again in no time.
I would try your local college/ nearest uni and have a chat with them, they will make sure you go in at a level that will suit you.
Maybe, if you have studied at A level brush up and have a good revision of what you know already.
There are lots of online courses and some free resources too.

I am hoping to study romany linguistics, it looks very hard though and didn't even do a language at o level when at school, so will be a challenge Grin

Wow that sounds so interesting, my language was actually German so I guess other Germanic languages would be good too, I think I will try some colleges...

It would be good if there were some local groups so we could read, listen and practice, and maybe drink wine and eat bratwurst??Shock

I could start one!!!

There have been several language threads recently that all seem to do well so I will bump for other replies

Immersion is the key. Newspapers, music, film. Basically all the things you usually do but do them in the language. Starting a group is a fab idea. I read that you need to speak everyday from the outset too, so it's important to find someone to talk to.

I downloaded a couple of free kindle books that had loads of useful links.

My language is French and I am going to back it up with a few courses. Good luck.

Oh and the Romani linguistics looks fascinating. What has made you chose that?
