Refusing to poo in the potty

We started toilet training this time last week and he was dry within two days. However he is withholding poo and is currently dancing around the living room clearly desperate (hasn't been since Monday night) but every time he sits on the potty be jumps up. Have bought lactulose and given him a dose and been giving him plenty of fluids and dried fruit etc... Any tips?

try sitting him on a trainer seat on the toilet and blow bubbles. mine only used a potty a few times, so much easier imo to go straight to the toilet

Have tried blowing bubbles. Might try a loo seat with a step for him to put his feet on... This is just awful to watch-he is so distressed.

Pop a nappy in him for poos. It's not against the rules, whatever works for him. Loads of boys don't like pooing in potties and take a while to adjust. Don't let things become a real problem/health issue when they don't need to be.

My ds didn't like an audience try him on the toilet and stand outside the door see if that helps

Have put him in a pull up but it's not making him any happier... Argh! I'd rather he just had an accident!

Is he able to tell you what he'd like to do about poos?

Thank you for all suggestions Smile Well the lactulose did the trick and he eventually managed to do his poo (on the potty-yippee!) and then was a transformed character! (He did then also have two poo accidents where he just couldn't quite get to the potty, but thankfully wasn't distressed, so not worried about that!) Bless him, before we potty trained him he was regular as clock work-every day after tea and before his bath, so no wonder he was so uncomfortable as he'd gone from Monday to Thursday!

Try reading him "Poo goes to Pooland" (Google it, free PDF online) and/or "Everybody Poos". Eventually he will get it but it may take a couple more weeks. I'm afraid we resorted to chocolate button rewards as well in the end as I got fed up cleaning up all the accidents!! Good luck!
