New toys throughout the year

I'm wondering whether to update my childrens collections a bit, in terms of playmobil and lego mostly as my dcs birthdays are so close to Christmas and I feel that we need some little extras to keep them going over the next few months. It seems like such a long time to wait until next Christmas before refreshing what they've got. Not thinking much, perhaps a couple of sets so £50 approx. Bit of a random one but I'm curious to know what others do in this situation? Do you tend to buy your cd little bits throughout the year or do they have to wait until Birthdays/ Christmas? My dc are 5 and under so don't get pocket money yet x

I've got into the habit of regular de cluttering and try to avoid faddy things and other general tat. Thankfully we don't do a weekly shop together so we don't have much pestering for new things to be honest. That said, I don't have a problem saying no unless I think it's something I think they will get use out of. I suppose it's because I got sick of picking up randon bit of plastic tat that just seems to get dragged around the house!

I'll probably drive my children mad and spoil their children

Yeah, and they'll probably start a thread about you, in aibu!

Totally agree singleandproud when I only had DS I got so excited over new toys as I wanted to play with them! Now there's two of them they are starting to play together a bit.

I think carefully over what new toys to get them, especially when they were very little and I wasn't sure what they'd like, and buy a lot from gumtree so if they weren't bothered it didn't cost a lot. I don't like 'faddy' toys and prefer things like duplo / lego that isn't limited in play.

I also clear out regularily and sell on gumtree and thankfully we have a playroom so aren't trying to store it all in the living room. We don't seem to have toy libraries in Belfast which is very annoying!

It's a shame that you don't have toy libraries TheAuthores.

Toys are one of the perks of parenthood... I can't wait til ds is old enough for playdoh!

I buy them things through the year. It gives me a great deal of pleasure to see the pleasure it brings my kids. I also think positive surprises encourage my dc to see the world as a warm, safe, lovely place, which is positive for their development.

Find an excuse to give them a present.
e.g. your teacher said you had done xxx really well
Random rewards - great way to go.
