Naps

I have a 10 week old who has a good night routine but daytimes are all over the place. suits me fine but I'm starting to wonder about naps as he loves to sleep on me and therefore doesn't sleep for very long at a time. we have a moses basket downstairs which he still fits into but it won't be long, I'm sure, until it's too small.

We need to get a travel cot for when we go away. I was thinking of having the travel cot at the back of the lounge downstairs so we can also use the changing table bit of it downstairs. is this a bad idea for him to use for naps? should he be going up to bed when he has a routine? should I stick with the moses basket for now?

really unsure of what to do as I don't want to get him used to sleeping in something if I'll be making a rod for my own back when it comes to proper nap times.

Mines 3months and still naps downstairs (the advice is to have them with you for naps until 6 months) in a travel cot/pram/or if I forget its nap time in her bouncer. I did use the upstairs cot for a weekend but that was to get her use to it as she wouldn't sleep there.
We dont have a set routine except no napping after 5pm as she goes to bed at 7.30. Although she is roughly on a 3hr feed routine with short naps in the morning and afternoon and a longer nap in the middle of the day.

Id just do what works for you, personally Id rather cut my own arm off then have my babies sleeping on me all day, but if you like it don't feel pressured to stop. I find I have to put mine down at least 15min before she is sleepy rather then when she is already sleepy in my arms.

We have the travel cot in our living room.

Safe sleeping applies to any kind of sleeping, not just night, so as it advised to sleep in parents room until 6 months, same applies in the day, advice would be to keep them in the room like you are, not put them in another room on their own.

I do put my 4 month old in the cot upstairs with the video monitor when I have a bath/shower, just for "practice" so we both get used to being separate gradually! :)

I had a soft padded mat - put it on the floor where I was. Fed/rocked baby and covered her on the mat. Worked brill! All out the window now she's teething bless her. In the sling or on my knee!!
