Reusable night time nappies - advice please.

I have just made the move over to reusable nappies after trying a few (a couple of cheap pocket ones off Amazon and a Mio Bambino Miosoft intro pack). For day time I am really happy with the Miosoft and bought the birth to potty premium kit. For night time I purchased some Little Lambs Bamboo and I have a Little Lamb wrap and a Blueberry coverall. The Little Lambs each came with a bamboo insert/liner and a fleece liner. There are no leaks out of the wraps but when I change my little girl in the mornings her bottom is soaking wet with beads of moisture on her skin as the nappy and two liners appear to have reached maximum capacity . I can't afford to spend a lot on changing the night time nappies but if anyone had any tips on how I can extend the absorbency without bulking the nappy too much more (the two liners plus nappy and wrap already appear too make it quite difficult for DD to lay flat). Thank you Smile

The fleece liner needs to be next to her skin. Liquid will seep through fleece and leave the liner and her bottom dry. I use a wool soaker overnight rather than a wrap so the moisture evaporates to some extent.

Thanks Stargirl. I had the fleecy liner next to her skin, I think she must be a bit of a heavy wetter, the actual nappy is also soaking wet all the way through and heavy and the liners seem to be all screwed up/bunched up when I take the nappy off so maybe that is it. Thanks for the link, I've just had a look at the wool wrap, I will give it a try.

I use a Bamboozle stretchy with an extra bamboo booster, fleece liner and a mother ease wrap.

I actually prefer Tots Bots fleecy liners which I leave sticking out of the nappy so they shift less.

TwoLittleBlooms · 24/04/2015 09:30

thanks Pikkewyn I'll have a look at those.

You could try some hemp liners, they are very thin but very effective at soaking up pee! Also the little lambs trifold bamboo liners.

Hemp and bamboo are boosters rather than liners, surely? They don't have any wicking properties like fleece.

Sorry, I meant boosters!

Have you prewashed them enough? Bamboo has to be washed a few times to get up to maximum absorbency . Also make sure you don't use any softener as this can also inhibit absorbency.

Extra bamboo booster ?

I'll probably be the only one to suggest this, but have you considered using traditional terry squares for night time? I used them on both my LO's and found them to be the most successful option by far. Just make sure they are good quality nappies and for a big baby or toddler I would recommend using the kite fold boosted in the centre with a folded second nappy. In my experience this kept even a heavy wetter quite comfortable through the night, with rarely any leaks. I did find that pins did a far better job of keeping a bigger nappy on nice and snug (especially once it's wet!), which I'm sure also helped prevent leaks. I found that simple old fashioned plastic pants were as good as any - and the ones with poppers up the side are great.
Good luck with it!
