Do they need special potties that have high fronts to stop any spraying (!) or is that completely unnecessary?

To be honest I think they're a waste of time, you just have to teach them how to tuck their willy in and all is well . I bought a sit on potty from Mothercare where you remove the bucket section for cleaning and it's great and being slightly raised is far easier for little bottoms to make contact with.

Thanks Alibaldi - what kind of potty did you get?

I just said: tuck your willy in - and we had a few misshaps in the beginning but mostly he got it pretty fast.

Just beware of those fab toilet seats from the GLTC - the ones that have a normal, adult toilet seat and then a smaller one built into the lid. They were wonderful for my DD but when it was DSs turn we discovered that even if he "tucked it in" the wee comes out between the two seats!

NYce DS seemed to manage pretty well with the normal potties and afetr about 2 months decided potties were for babies and now hauls himslef up onto the big loo - or lately stands up "like Daddy" - so I wouldn;t worry.

The main thing as everyone says, is that they tuck it in.

sit on potty This is great, does have a slightly raised front, but easy clean and portable.
