How often do you replace bottles and teats?

My friend thinks I'm crazy because I change my teats every month (I use Dr Browns and find they go a bit discoloured). Bottles I have always changed every 3-4 months. DS3 is 12 weeks tomorrow and bottles don't look too bad at all but its just a habit I've had since DS1 was born and bow interested how long everyone else makes them last.

Ive never changed them, dc2 is 3 months and using the same ones dc1 used.

JemFinch · 19/04/2015 09:23

I only changed the teats when the holes got too big from the poky bit wen you clan them. Never got new bottles, towards the end I had some lovely orange ones from when I had given up on washing by hand and used the dishwasher with something with spag Bol sauce on...

I changed teats as and when they graduated to the next size up. They've been on level 4 teats for about 18 months now and I've never replaced them. Never replaced their bottles either!

Never? It wouldnt have occurred to me. Washed and sterilised for a year and still perfectly usuable. I would probably get new teats if I had another.

It must cost you a fortune?

gallicgirl · 19/04/2015 09:26

I changed my bottles after I put them in steam steriliser without water.

who knew they'd melt like that?

LillyBugg · 19/04/2015 09:28

Lol gallic! Also never changed here. Even put some in with the baby clothes to store for baby number two.

Why do you replace OP? Did you read it somewhere? I've never heard of this before.

scarletforya · 19/04/2015 09:30

Never! Confused

Well, the teats according to the child's age. But bottles, no. I used Dr Brown's too.

Discoloration won't affect the function you know. As long as they're sterilized every use.

dementedpixie · 19/04/2015 09:30

I didn't replace bottles but changed teats when they moved to faster ones. I didn't change them any more than that or buy extras for no reason.

dementedpixie · 19/04/2015 09:31

Why on earth would you need to replace bottles every few months?? what a waste of money for no reason

LuckyAugust · 19/04/2015 09:37

I clearly have OCD with this then!Grin I have no idea why I change as often as I do and it does indeed cost me a fortune! Thanks everyone, will be changing this habit!

Only if the teat is damaged as per the info on the box. Smile

Andcake · 19/04/2015 11:29

Never here too - although only used them after bf so not long

YouMakeMyHeartSmile · 19/04/2015 11:32

Never. Bottles are orange (Dr Browns) from the dishwasher but don't see that as a reason to replace them! Teats were changed when she went up a size.

AndThisIsTrue · 19/04/2015 11:39

Never here either! DS has been on the same sized teat for ages and will probably use them until he gives up his bedtime bottle. Will probably buy new ones for next baby though.

LuckyAugust · 19/04/2015 13:10

Thanks again everyone. Feeling very embarrased at my stupidity and honestly don't know why I've changed teats and bottles as often as I have Blush

I binned the lot between DD1 and DD2.

mumofboyo · 19/04/2015 14:19

Same as most others - I never changed the bottles or the teats. I inherited them with the steam steriliser from my cousin, used them for both dc and then gave them away to another cousin. The only time I bought some more was when we went away and forgot the bottles.

I’ve just come across this thread while Googling and wanted to add, Tommee Tippee do advise you replace bottles and teats as regularly as every 2 months: www.tommeetippee.com/en-gb/product-support/support-closer-to-nature-bottle

I was looking for a general consensus on this exact topic however, Tommee Tippee seems to be the only manufacturer to address this. I’d love to know if there is a generally accepted rule..

Thatwentbadly · 03/03/2021 08:27

Never. I changed the tested when they went up a size and binned the bottles when we stopped using them just after 1 yr.

Doireallyneedaname · 03/03/2021 08:51

Never. Once we found the ones that worked (around 3 months) we continued using them until age 1.

They did go cloudy but that’s just the sterilising fluid.

Babyboomtastic · 03/03/2021 09:48

I'm also I'm the never camp though in your slight defence, tommee tippee reccomend changing them frequently. I always assumed it was so you'd spend more though.

addler · 03/03/2021 14:35

Hmm, I wonder why a bottle manufacturer recommends you buy new ones every two months Hmm

FizzingWhizzbee123 · 04/03/2021 16:35

I haven’t changed bottles. Although I haven’t used them yet (breastfeeding), I’ve kept DS1’s bottle for DS2.

Teats I only changed when they went up a flow size. I will buy new teats for DS2 though.

Got a paramedic friend who reused her bottles and teats from her first child for her second child and wondered why on earth I mentioned bothering to get new teats!
