Babies and small cars

Hello :)

Hope I'm posting in the right place!

I'm just looking for some advice as I'm expecting my first baby this year and I'm worried my car is too small.

I have a fiat 500 and it's quite important as me and OH are from opposite ends of the country and have settled in the middle of where both of our family live. We do a lot of driving.

Basically is this going to be doable with a baby?

Thanks!

I had a VW Lupo when dd was born. I could get a Petite Star Zia buggy in the boot and nothing else. Swapped it for a Peugeot 307 when she was 6 months old (the lupo, not the buggy) - best thing I ever did, got sick of climbing in and out with a car seat especially once she got heavier.

I have a fiat 500 and a 14 month old and have had this car his whole life. I will say it is a squeeze sometimes though. I have to take the wheels off my uppababy vista to fit it in the boot and nothing else can fit in with it. if I go away for a couple of nights I manage to get quite a lot in it but that's with just me and my ds, not my husband too. We use his car for holidays. I am now 28 weeks pregnant with dc2 and we will be getting a vw touareg in September as I know it will be too squashed in the Fiat 500 and I personally find it's a hassle with it being a three door. I could make it work if I had to but it's not the most practical car.

I have put the isofix with maxi cosi in mine and ds now has the kiddy guardianfix car seat and it fits well, you have to take the head rest out though for it it fit. Hope that helps you.

If you stay with parents at each end of the country, get them each to buy a travel cot and ikea anti lop highchair

Thank you for all of your amazing suggestions. I have a lot of looking up to do now so thank you for pointing me in the right directions.

I think we will definitely have to keep big things like a travel cot at our parents as we are in Lancashire and our parents live in Northumberland and Worcestershire and the M6 is hellish enough without carting around my entire house.

Fab suggestions though very helpful. X

I have a 500, an 18 month old and a 6 year old and I still love my car! I had a quinny zapp xtra from birth, it fit in the boot no probs. I now use a nuna which I had with the 6 year old and it also fits. Isofix for the infant car seat was a must. I had a maxi cosi cabriofix. We do have a bigger car too but my car is mainly used for dropping the DC off in the morning at then commuting so I didn't want to get another bigger car if I could help it.

I had a Fiat 500 with DS (who is now nearly 6) until DS2 was just over 1.

If on long journeys I did used to put one of the seats down- my version had split fold. But to be honest I rarely did that, I managed to fit everything in and I found it useful having a small car when parking and getting small children out!

We had a Citroen C3 till DS1 was nearly 6 and DS2 was 3. Went from SE to W Highlands in it for 2 weeks, including travel cot. You just pack very sparingly.

My top tip would be to get a sling, so you don't have to lug the pram around.
