Morning nap nightmare.

DD is 14 weeks old, and over the past 3 weeks or so, she fights with everything in her to go down for her morning nap, even though she obviously needs it (red eyes, rubbing her eyes, wanting her dummy) she cries, hits out (as much as a 14 week old can) doesn't want to be held but doesn't want to be put down either. I'm really struggling. She eventually wears herself out and falls asleep, but usually after about an hour. Should i just let her play/be in her bouncer and leave her too it or is there something else I can do? She's normally very good at getting herself to sleep. I hate seeing her like this.

I always found a nice swaddle would help avoid the flailing limbs.

What time do you put her down? And what time does she normally wake up in the morning? You could try putting her down earlier - she could possibly be overtired. In my experience, they're ready for their nap two hours after waking up - in fact my first was ready after an hour and a half.

This link shows how long a baby should be awake before needing a nap. I suspect you're leaving it too late.

Pushchair with snooze shade cover was my saving grace at that age.

Motion + remove outside stimulation.

Agree with pp's about possible over tiredness too.

That link from Littlefoot is great. Totally agree with mrsmugoo about motion - definitely works and good exercise! But if it was me (and I always did) I'd persevere with the cot at home sleep - because otherwise you'll miss out on really valuable you time - just to tidy, prepare for day, relax and rejuvenate. Gather your thoughts etc. For me that was an absolute necessity. She'll get back into the swing of things. Definitely try the earlier to bed thing, see if that works.

I think at 14 weeks it's best to just do whatever it takes to get them to take the sleep they need, particularly first nap of the day. I think around 17/8 weeks is when I persevered with all naps in cot, but that was after i'd established a nice routine of getting him to sleep after 2 hours awake.

Mine will only nap morning time if full and clean. Smile Try just after a feed.

Word of warning about over tiredness ... I was trying to avoid this and dd wouldn't sleep. Turned out she wasn't tired enough. So reduce the time gradually!! It might be 2 hours, might be 1 1/2 ... Mine was 3 (checked with GP and HV ... no signs of over tiredness).

The infant sleep information service has excellent info. Sorry can't link as on phone! But I found it reassuring and useful.
