Poo consistency a concern

Hi.

My ds is almost three and has (forever it seems) had really sloppy poo. I thought this was down to the fact that he eats loads of fruit and veg and drinks a fair amount of water too but my nursery have told me that it's not normal and should probably be checked out. She said that the smell reminded her of another case where the doctors were able to help in prescribing something to make the poo not so sloppy.
DS is not concerned and is happy and healthy but actually I am getting concerned in that he might not be able to get to the loo on time once potty training starts if he continues like this.

Advice from all you lovely mums out there would very much be appreciated. Do I take a sample to the docs?

Thanks a mill.

Could be toddler diarrhoea - it's very, very common.

Hi LastChance - mine have all had toddler diarrhoea - really explosive, runny poos, smell terrible! It is perfectly normal and very common. If your ds drinks a lot of apple juice, this is sometimes a factor in making it worse, but there's often nothing you can do. If he's nearly 3, he'll probably grow out of it fairly soon.

The nursery may be thinking about coeliac disease, but that is very characteristic, and you would be aware if he had it, as there would be other symptoms.

Thank you both for your reassurance and comments. I've just read the article on Toddler Diarrhoea and can honestly say that my ds may drink alot more juice than he should but it is always well diluted. He also eats fruit and veg and has a good dose of fibre for breakfast so, it would seem to me it's not his diet that needs changing. He even usually always has a yogurt every day and some cheese so the fat content is probably okay too.

I will take the article, along with ds, to the docs just to be sure.

Thanks again.

Probably a good idea to speak to the dr if you're worried. Tbh, I don't think it was a dietary thing with ds1 and dd - just one of those things. They've both grown out of it now.

We have this too, or rather DS does. I did find a switch to goats milk made a slight difference.

We are potty training at the moment and I think hes holding on to his poos for a little bit longer so on the plus side he doesnt egt constipated.
