Anyone have any good ideas for birthday present for my daughters first birthday? I'd like to get something/things that are going to be beneficial to her development and fun rather than wasting money got things that won't get used.

If you have room, a small slide or swingset will get loads of use. Or a tricycle.

A ride on toy like a wheelybug is good fun. Or a play kitchen if you've room. The ikea one is good value and compact I think.

We got DD a scuttlebug and an engraved money box plus opened a savings account with her birthday money.

She's now 16 months and her most used toys these last few months are:

Cozy coupe car
Baby and pushchair
Tomy hide n squeak eggs
Happyland - mainly the actual figures
Play kitchen
Any kind of chair! Fisherprice do a musical one
Musical/touch n feel/lift the flap books
Water table and sandpit - loves this!
Slide
Musical table
Crayons/ colouring books
shape sorter toys

Hope that helps!

The little one I look after turned 1 before Christmas, we chose these and they are still played with on a daily basis.

A small climbing frame/slide for the garden
A scuttlebug
Small pram/pushchair and baby
Tomy eggs
Pop up tent
Tea pot and tea cups
Stacking blocks
Small world animals
Pouring items for the bath

A scuttlebug! Still being played with 2 years later!

Totally recommend a scuttlebug or a little tykes sandpit (his favourite) or little tykes car.

We got these for Christmas and birthdays at that age. All a hit.

Smart trike !

A three wheeler micro scooter. Slightly small atm but ds's were using theirs from 15-16months, so she will be there soon. Eldest is 5 years and still uses almost daily

Aww it was my DD's birthday last Sunday. I bought her a First Steps Walker by VTech, a gold bracelet and lots of little toys like a baby bowling set, giant Lego stacker blocks etc,

Thank you everyone. Some fab ideas for you all. I'll go a scuttle bug I think and a slide for the garden. She loves the one at play group xx

Thanks for the thread and ideas, which I want to use for my dd's birthday. The only thing is, I have googled things like the kitchen, pop up tent, play pushchair etc and am only finding ones that say suitable for ages 2 or 3 plus. Am I looking in the wrong places, or do people ignore age recommendations?

Artandco · 13/04/2015 10:46

Mouse - ignore age ratings. For example mine now at 3 use play kitchen far less than did at 1 and 2. It's only age restricted as May have a part they can put in mouth or bite. Ie wooden kitchen they could trap finger in door, but they could at 3/4/5 also so fairly pointless. Most things you could just take any smaller parts away from main part at the beginning if needed.

It's like a bike. All children's bikes small enough say 3+. That's only because the average Child under 3 could reach the floor and ride, but there's no reason a 2 year old couldn't use if they can reach and pedal

Thanks Artandco!
