TERRIBLE Nappy rash

Hi guys, I hope you dont mind me asking for some advice. My Daughter Missy is 15 months old.

Missy currently has the most terrible nappy rash (I presume thats what it is) it is glowing red with some small spots and she has been in such pain that she has screamed when we have wiped her after a nappy change, has been reluctant to sit down in the bath and keeps trying to rip her nappy off. I have been putting Sudocrem on which normally clears it up straight away, it has got a bit better but is still there. I have tryed some no nappy time but havent had much of a chance to do this. It could be a tooth, it could be something to do with her MMR which was 7 days ago, we have had a couple of runny nappies.

Is there anything else I can do or do you think I should take her to the docs?

Thx in advance! x

I second Jessicaandrebeccasmummy, metanium is the cream of the gods (but don't let it get on your clothes because it doesn't come off!

Could it be fungal nappy rash? My DS had evil nappy rash a few months ago in the hot weather - it turned out that's what it was.

The pharmasist recommended Canestan, which worked a treat. Have a word and see what your local chemist thinks. Or the doc.

Otherwise, I've used Kamillosan before (left over from my sore BF-ing nipples!) and that worked.

the runny nappies would suggest that its being caused by either a tooth or something she ate, did she eat anything new this week?

as for treatment a full on attack with all of these usually works;

oatmeal bath (few spoons of porridge oats in a muslin in the bath)

lightly whipped egg white smeared on it and left to dry at night(fiddly with toddler though, be warned)

calendula cream on the bleeding bits.

vaseline is usually better than sudocreme as it soesn't take as much wiping off so less damage being doen that way

use cotton wool and water or very sensitive wipes to clean

HTH

Hi - go to the dr's first - check if it's thrush (as per previous post suggestion) If not - use metanium - seriously it's blooming great and has even cleared up mild excema in my dd1 before! Heals and barrier.

Thanks sooo much for the quick responses, knew you guys would be able to help.

I think I will book a docs appt and in the meantime buy some metanium or similar.

Missy hasnt eaten anything different, so I am guessing it is a tooth or effects of MMR but I hope the doc will be able to confirm this. Thx again!

Just to say, have you tried Weleda's nappy change cream? Its really soothing and effective and as its all natural stuff you can use it all the time. If you cant find it in boots or your chemist, i've seen it on the kittykins site.
