Potties for the squeamish!

I am starting to think about buying a potty for my ds just to get him used to it. Not planning on doing proper training for a while as he is only 16months although he is starting to show awareness of poos in his nappy and wanting to be changed.

I plan to see how it goes but actually think friends have said the later the better and I'm in no hurry to deal with all those accidents!

Anyway my big question is - I am quite squeamish about poo and walking round with a potty sloshing with wee (I know sad! Can't believe changing nappies for 16 months hasn't changed this!) and wonder what you recommend as a way to deal with it as hygienically as possible!

I know there are travel potties with disposable lines (not very eco - sorry!) but what about home ones?

Do any of you use the travel one all the time or is it not very comfy for the little one?

What do you do - do you have to just empty the potty in the loo and then rinse it in the sink/ bath as to be honest the latter doesn't seem very hygienic!

I saw a woman out at a playzone giving her child a potty to use and she had put a sanitary towel in it to soak up the wee which I thought was very clever. Does anyone do that?

Sorry if I sound neurotic! I'm not really but it all sounds a bit grim!

Don't bother with potties then,go straight to toilets.
I'd say you've got at least 6 months before you even need to think about tbh.The weather will be better then too.

good point re Summer - that means I either have to do it around his 2nd or 3rd birthday. Ages off even if next Summer so I can bury my head in the sand!!

So for PT straight onto the proper loo, what do you need - one of those junior toilet seats that goes on top of the big one? And a step thing so they can climb up there?

Just curious!
