Red dots on newborn girly bits

Hey ladies.

This may seem a crazy post but I'm sleep deprived and a paranoid FTM!

Dd is now 4weeks old. But when she was 2 weeks she had these red slightly raised dots(pinprick) with even tinier pinprick white dots inside some of them. They were mainly on her out labia (sorry if TMI). The odd one was also in her groin.

The rest of her girly parts were not red or sore looking at all. I saw the MW and bought it up then. She is very quiet and very dopey (sorry) but she really is. But very lovely.

She had a look and said "oh they're just baby sorts. Use metanium treatment and they'll go.
Sure enough after a few data they went.

I just thought it was so early days to get stuff like that!? "Baby spots" seemed such a blasé opinion too??

Can anyone reassure me or has anyone else experienced this?

Thank you xx

When my ds2 was born his genitals were really swollen and he developed what my midwife told me were milk spots on his face and around his groin area. They looked like you describe. My daughter had
The same with what I can only describe as a mini period which was due to my hormones leaving her body.
I would have asked if It was possible if she had thrush but if she doesn't look sore that's unlikely. Especially if the midwife has had a look.
I'd probably guess it's milk spots but if you're not happy with the answer the midwife gave you, take her to the doctors. Pfb or not, mums know best, even if it's to put your mind to rest Smile

Thank you Mamabird. Can I ask how soon after they were born that they developed them?x

If I'm honest I'm not exactly sure when the developed as my youngest is almost 4 now! But I know it was when they were very very tiny, definitely before their 6 week check up. Sorry I can't be more specific!

Yep dd had these too. Along with nappy rash.

AntiHop · 09/04/2015 23:20

My dd gets these pinprick red spots on her genitals. I don't remember seeing white dots on them. I thought they were nappy rash and have used metamium on them

Rachyw1986 · 10/04/2015 10:38

Droflove did you get them same time as nappy rash?
X
Anti hop I think only 1 or 2 had white dots on them ??

Yeah but the nappy rash cleared and the dots sometimes remain. My friend (gp) saw them last week and said oh that's a little infected looking with the dots. But I didn't ask more at the time as we were more focused on a bad excema outbreak. She has very sensitive skin compared to ds.

Up to 70% of babies get erythema toxicum neonatorum. Of course your midwife referred to it as "baby spots" because that's common parlance for it. She wasn't being dopey in this instance. It most often occurs on the face and body but can occur anywhere but not on the soles or palms usually. It looks like acne and is also referred to as "baby acne". Some people call them "milk spots" too. Along with slight nappy rash, it's very common in babies. It usually clears up pretty quickly as it did in your case.

I have a ds but he had very small red spots which sometimes came to a head all around his nappy area and a fe on his thighs and torso. It looked a little like chickenpox but the spots were much much smaller. They've never bothered him and hv said she sees similar on lots of babies. I think he was getting too hot and sweaty under his nappy. They faded away with metanium and some time spent with his nappy off.

If they are now gone after using the cream recommended I'm wondering why you are still worried about this?

It's just one of those things, not worthy of being anxious about.

If you are finding yourself anxious & worrying about things such as this then you should maybe speak to health visitor about it.
