Is a 2.5 tog sleep bag warm enough?

Ds is 6 weeks old I've just started to put him in a sleep bag during the night (he wears a vest & sleepsuit). The sleep bag is 2.5 tog and feels very thin too me, is this enough to keep him warm at night? I feel I need to put a blanket over him too?

I use 1.0 tog made with merino wool. Feels thick & warm, Infact too warm is my guess.

Try a different brand/material perhaps?

DD wears a 2.5 tog with just a long sleeved body suit under and has done since 12 weeks. Our house is warm though, especially upstairs.

It depends on the temp of your room, but I doubt you'd want anything warmer at this time of year.
Even if your bag isn't made by the gro company as long as it has a tog rating this chart explains what tog for what temp room, and what to wear underneath. I still check it now as ds is one! gro.co.uk/pages/what-to-wear

You shouldn't use a blanket on top of a gro bag. 2.5 tog plus vest or sleepsuit is fine for a room that's 18 to 20 degrees.

My 9 month dd wears vest sleepsuit and 2.5 sleeping bag. last night was really warm so I put her in a 1 tog sleeping bag she was really hot when we went to bed so I took her sleepsuit off and she just slept in a vest and the bag. 2.5 is fine for most of the year except when it gets really warm

2.5 tog for between 16-20 degrees is fine. It's not going to be thick like an adult duvet, that would be too much. A long sleeved sleepsuit underneath should be fine. Hands will always feel a little bit cold in a baby, that's not an indication the body is cold.

My 8 week old is in a 2.5 tog now and she seemed really sweaty last night so might put her in 1.5 tog tonight.

Our houae is usually between 18-22 degrees. We varied between just a nappy for practically newborn DD (heatwave), mostly used sleepsuit, no vest & 1 tog sleep bag in spring/autumn/cooler months of summer. 2.5 tog bag with sleepsuit & long sleeved vest in winter. Sometimes socks under the sleepsuit. She is quite a warm little girl though.

Basically, it varies, lot, based on your own haouse & what your child is like. My niece is continually freezing & is muffled up all summer.

From what age can a baby start using a grobag?

moomoob · 07/04/2015 17:38

My ds is 6 weeks some say from 10lb but this 1 says from 7lb

You have to make sure that it cannot ride up over their face. The proper grobags have extra poppers on the arm holes to make sure they are really snug.

Hope that works, never tried to do a link before...

Yes!!

I'm "that mum" who keeps all the advice labels. I use gro and own brand bags.

For 18-22 degrees, they all say ONE layer of clothing and a 2.5 tog. No blanket.

Two is actually viewed as risky. Though I know from mn many do it.
