Me, DH and DS are on a 4.5 hour flight tomorrow and I'm dreading it.

DS had just turned one and I'm panicked that he's going to be bored, frustrated and a total nightmare Confused

DH reckons DS will be fine Hmm

Any tips??

Food! Lots of it! And an iPhone. Those combined might get you through an hour or so.

For DS at aged 2, we took :

  • tablet preloaded with tons of Masie Mouse and Mr Tumble, and a pair of over-the-ear headphones
  • lots of snacks. Those little boxes of raisins are good as they can fiddle for ages getting them out
  • some strips of masking tape. Saw this on a blog somewhere, they can spend ages sticking and unsticking them to things.
  • a couple of toys he'd never seen before that I rationed throughout the flight for points where he got bored.

It really wasn't too bad. It's worth chatting to your surrounding passengers in advance to say you'll do your best to entertain him. Make a joke of it and keep them onside. Just remember, you're paying for your seat as much as the next person, and have a right to be there, do don't stress too much. Take regular walks down the aisle and take it in turns to be in charge of entertainment so the other can rest.

Try to get him to have a nice long sleep at some point during the flight. Then, food, toys he hasn't seen for a while, nappy changes (occupied my dd for about 2 hours in total of a 9 hour flight I did on my own with her!).

And when it all gets too much - hand him over to DH for a walk around Grin.

It'll be fine. 4.5 hours is nothing.

Where do you change a baby on a plane?

Random question but I've never had to think about it before. Is there space in the loo?

There are change tables in the toilets.
