When did you stop sterilising

Hi all,

My dd is 6 months and is ff as well as just starting to wean. Have done a bit of reading up online and there seems to be conflicting guidance on when to stop sterilising bottles and teats and feeding equipment-some sites say 6 months others 12!
I currently sterilise all bottles and teats but I just run feeding spoons/bowls through the dishwasher.
When did you stop sterilising?

I stopped when I found dd1 munching away on dry cat food at the age of around 10 months. Similar sort of thing with dd2.

She seems fine (aged 7 now)!

Ive never sterilised anything for DD even though she's my first. (I dont seem to have the capacity to worry Wink)

She would never take a bottle so there hasnt been that element and when she started weaning at 5 months then i just washed the plates/spoons in really hot soapy water. (My logic was that she was licking everything in sight at this point so it was wasted effort on my part.

If you are using a dishwasher, then the heat they run at means everything is effectively sterilised anyway. I'm sure I read somewhere that sterilisers aren't really used in the USA; they just chuck bottles and stuff in the dishwasher.

I didn't ever sterilise anything and we don't have a dishwasher. DCs were EBF to 6 months, then BF alongside solids to 1 year. I saw little point in washing cups / bowls / cutlery when they were crawling along the floor picking up bits of dirt (not that my house is too dirty Wink). I just washed everything in hot water with our other dishes. My children never suffered with an upset tummy as babies / toddlers.

About 13 months old, not worth the small risk before one I thought and if you have the steriliser anyway...

My husband still gives our 1.5yo bottles occasionally and I still steralise them every now and then after I found little bits of black mould on one. Hasn't happened for a while though, not since I discovered you can take the teat apart to wash.

It only matters for milk - shoes aren't likely to be growing a nice culture of milk bacteria. Till 12 months for bottles, we looked into running the dishwasher hot but it works out more expensive than a steriliser.
