Feeling really guilty

My boys (5 and 7) have been nattering for a pumpkin since they first started selling a few weeks ago and I kept saying I would get one nearer Halloween so it would last longer...we always get a pumpkin, carve a face and stick a candle in etc...

Anyway a few days ago my friend asked if we wanted to go to a "fright night" at the park, a halloween party type thing, started at 4 and didnt finish until 10pm but I said we'd go and maybe leave early...I told the boys that instead of getting a pumpkin we would be going for a halloween "suprise".

So, since last night they have been excited about this "suprise" and went to school this morning thinking about it. Anyway, when we went to pick them up tonight it was absolutely freezing, ice cold wind and pelting down with rain, we eventually got home cold and soaked, I had to stick youngest in the shower as he'd fallen in some dog poo and then friend says she didnt fancy the park thing anymore and her daughter wanted to stay home and carve a pumpkin with her dad...I didnt fancy the park thing anymore either as it was so cold but it was too late by this time to go out and get a pumpkin so we ended up doing nothing , I really feel guilty...I managed to break 2 promises relating to the same event (the pumpkin and the suprise).

Am I a bad mum?

Go and get a pumpkin when they're at school tomorrow - the shops will be selling them off cheap, I bet. You're not a bad mum, you didn't plan for this to happen.

You'd be a bad mum if you broke the promise and did nothing. You're worried about it so you're no bad mum!! You can show them that it was an unavoidable blip and that the fun can happen tomorrow like hunker says. Half price everything I bet, so you can fill a box and be totally ready for the next one as well!

Nope, just unfortunate. They will forget in no time. As a parent, sometimes this stuff happens.

I was thinking of doing it tomorow... another thing I usually do is leave a trail of sweets throughout the house from the "friendly halloween ghost" so I suppose I could set that up tomorow too...late is better than never right?

Yep, definitely.

They'll not be expecting it either.

yeah it's not bad luck either - the festival of samhain (which is where halloween originates from) lasts from oct 31 to nov 2 - just for your information so you'd be fine. bet you're a super mum, at least you bother to feel guilty, a bad mum wouldn't !!
